Thursday, May 26
A transient was arrested May 26 after allegedly holding up a Claremont Little Caesars restaurant.
Carlos Vasquez, 40, was arrested after a short foot pursuit, and a gun that police say was used in the robbery was recovered in Montclair, according to a release from the Claremont Police Department. Mr. Vasquez is “likely responsible” for a number of armed robberies in adjacent cities, police said.
A woman who is suspected of driving Mr. Vasquez, identified as 35-year-old Eileen Parilla of Hemet, was also arrested.
Police responded to the pizza shop on the 300 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard after getting a call of an armed robbery in progress. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a lime green hoodie.
Officers followed a suspicious green Saturn that was leaving the scene, and Mr. Vasquez reportedly fled after the car was stopped. He was apprehended a short time later.
Mr. Vasquez and Ms. Parilla were both arrested for robbery and warrants. Mr. Vasquez was transported to the inmate reception center, where he is being held without bail, and Ms. Parilla was transported to Century Regional Detention Facility on $200,000 bail.

Aaron Florendo, 18, was arrested for sending threatening messages to a person on Instagram. The victim called the police and reported that the suspect sent messages threatening to kill her between 12:45 and 5:13 p.m. After an investigation, Mr. Florendo was arrested at his work place for making criminal threats and transported to the Claremont Police Department jail where he was held for bail/court.

Two 15-year-old boys got into a brawl with a third student at Claremont High School just before 2 p.m. in the boy’s locker room, according to Lt. Mike Ciszek. The fight was captured on video and posted to YouTube, where it had been viewed over 1,700 times. The two boys were determined to be the aggressors, and were arrested for battery.

A woman’s purse was stolen when a burglar broke into her car at the Claremont Hills Wilderness Park between 6 and 9 a.m. The unidentified thief broke into the victim’s locked car and stole the purse while the car was parked in the south parking lot. Credit cards from the stolen purse were used after the theft. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

A shotgun and $1,000 in cash were among items stolen from a home on the 2700 block of Mountain Avenue. The burglary happened at around noon, when the suspect smashed the rear sliding glass door of the home, taking the shotgun, cash and an unknown amount of jewelry. There is no description of the suspect. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Claremont police.
Sunday, May 29
A resident of a group home for developmentally disabled adults walked away from the property and has not been seen since. Stephanie Warren, 37, was last seen at the Claremont Sheltered Care Center on the 300 block of Indian Hill Boulevard at 11 a.m. on May 28. Ms. Warren is described as 5-foot-6, 202 pounds, with hazel eyes and shoulder-length brown hair and was last seen wearing a brown sweater and white pants. Ms. Warren left the home once before in April, according to Lt. Ciszek. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact the Claremont Police Department.

Police arrested a Monrovia man after he allegedly attempted to burglarize two Claremont homes on May 29.
Santano Luera, 23, was taken into custody while hiding in a tree on the 4200 block of Oak Hollow Road after a resident caught him inside their home, according to Lt. Jason Walters from the Claremont Police Department.
Mr. Luera was identified as a suspect in a previous attempted home invasion that occurred just before 2 p.m., when a resident noticed him trying to open the sliding glass door of a home on the 1900 block of Lockhaven Way. The suspect fled the scene and was not apprehended.
Around 3:30 p.m., another resident on the 4200 block of Oak Hollow Road saw Mr. Luera in their residence. Mr. Luera fled the scene, but was eventually located and coerced down from a tree by the Claremont Police Department’s K-9 unit and surrendered without incident.
Mr. Luera was arrested on charges of burglary and attempted burglary and transported to CPD jail. He was on active probation for a previous grand theft auto charge.
Monday, May 30
A 16-year-old boy left the scene of an accident just before 7:30 p.m. on May 30 at the intersection of Indian Hill Boulevard and Harrison Avenue. The Toyota Camry driven by the boy sideswiped another car while traveling north. The boy reportedly left the scene without exchanging information, and caused additional damage to a median in the process. The following day, a tip from a witness led to the boy, who was arrested and transported to CPD jail.

Over $2000 worth of property was stolen from a storage unit. The burglary occurred at Evergreen Storage on the 400 block of Base Line Road sometime between February 7 and May 30, when an unidentified thief gained entry to the unit by unlocking the padlock. Among the property stolen from the unit were two desktop computers, a 72-inch Mitsubishi projector television, a leather recliner, a black printer and a three-piece black luggage set. Another storage unit was burglarized within the same time frame, but it is currently unknown what property was taken.
