CoolCalifornia challenge offers prizes, finds Claremont in first
The CoolCalifornia Challenge is a competition between 22 cities to reduce their carbon footprints. The winning city will get the largest share of $150,000 for sustainability projects. And if you help Claremont earn points, you may also win.
Participants may win two tickets to Shen Yun, the classical Chinese performance coming to Bridges Auditorium. The Claremont resident who earns the most points in the CoolCA Challenge from February 22 through March 7 will win two tickets, valued at $200, to the performance at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 10.
Sign up at www.CAChallenge.org. Then earn points by submitting your utility use, energy savings plans, reviews of resource saving measures and more. Also help your school win a prize by joining your school’s Eco Team in the CoolCA Challenge. Sustainable Claremont is awarding money to the three Claremont school Eco Teams that earn the most points.

Claremont is currently the front-runner among 22 California cities with its 409 members and 1,196,133 points earned so far, according to challenge organizers. With a little over a month left until the challenge end date, time is running out for participants to extend Claremont’s lead and make sure we stay at the top of the leaderboard.
Let’s not forget last year, when Claremont was swept by Riverside in the last moments of the challenge. The challenge ends on March 30, and the winner will be announced during Earth Week on April 21.
