Keck students robbed at knife-point

A would-be robber pulled a knife on two Keck Graduate Institute students as they were walking on campus late Thursday evening.

The incident happened at the campus at approximately 11:50 p.m., when the knife-wielding suspect wearing a black mask or a scarf approached the students and demanded money, according to Lt. Eric Huizar of the Claremont Police Department.

The two students took off in different directions, and the robber chased one of them east on Watson Drive and then south on Bucknell Avenue. The student outran the robber and flagged down a passing police car near the area of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill Boulevard.

No money or property was taken from the students, according to Lt. Huizar.

The suspect was last seen running southbound across Arrow Highway. After an area search conducted by police, he was not located. He is described as a black male, 25-30 years old, 5-10 to six feet tall and 150-175 pounds. He was wearing a black mask or scarf covering his face, a white hooded sweatshirt and black gloves.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.
