Call for artists, muralists for annual art showcase
The city of Claremont, in partnership with the Claremont Museum of Art and Claremont Graduate University Art Business/Art Management Public Art students, is seeking artists to showcase work at the Alexander Hughes Community Center. The exhibit will run from August through November 2015.
The artwork, on loan from the artists, will be prominently displayed for the community, students and professionals that visit the center on a daily basis. The artwork will be fully credited on site and may be listed for sale, though sales will be the responsibility of each artist. Insurance coverage up to a $1500 value is provided as a condition of the loan documentation.
The art showcase will also feature a temporary mural. The selected artist will receive a $600 stipend for materials. The available wall space is 23.3’ long x 10’ high.
Selection for the exhibit will be made by the Public Art students, Claremont’s Arts Coordinator Aurelia Brogan and a representative of the Claremont Museum of Art. They will also work with the artists to install and take down the artwork.
The Hughes Center features a generous amount of space available to display 2D work, including an expansive lobby and several conference rooms used for a variety of events. There is also an opportunity to hang some 3D work, though some restrictions apply.
An exhibition reception will be held late August 2015 to honor the featured artists.
Deadline to apply is July 1. Those selected will be notified by phone by July 16. All submissions will be considered. Artists living and/or working in Claremont will be given preference for this exhibition. 2D art is preferred, but consideration will be given to 3D. All submissions must be complete and ready to display. Arakawa cable and hook system will be used for hanging.
Artists should submit a brief statement of interest and up to five items for consideration, including photos of the artwork to abrogan@ci.claremont.ca.us. Be sure to include contact information, college affiliation, if any, as well as titles and media for all artwork.
For more information, contact Ms. Brogan at (909) 3399?5495 or email abrogan@ci.claremont.ca.us.
