Emy Frederick
Volunteer, loving wife and mother
Emy Frederick, a longtime Claremont resident, died on April 20, 2015. She was 91.
Emma Silvia Brusasco was born in St. Louis, Missouri on March 22, 1924 to Delfina and Evasio Brusasco. The family moved to Hollywood when she was in elementary school. She met Paul Frederick, her husband of 62 years, when they were students at Pepperdine University.
After marrying, her husband’s medical practice called them to Pomona where they raised their four children. The family moved to Claremont in 1960 and Mrs. Frederick remained in her home here until her move to the Claremont Manor in 2014.
During these years she was an active member of her community, donating hundreds of hours in both support and leadership activities to the American Heart Association, Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Auxiliary and Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
She was a terrific cook and gracious hostess to family and friends, who will attest to her knock-out vegetable soup.
After her children were raised, Emy continued gardening, golfing and traveling. By train, plane and ship, often with good friends, she and Paul were able to take wonderful trips all over the world. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.
Mrs. Frederick was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 2010. She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Paula Frederick and Marcus Leh of Claremont and Victoria Brown of Rancho Cucamonga; by her sons and daughters-in-law, Lief and Val Frederick of Claremont and Galen and Maria Frederick of Orange; and by her former daughter-in-law, Kristin Frederick of Claremont. She leaves nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Todd Memorial Chapel in Claremont on May 15. Burial followed at Oak Park Cemetery. A Mass in her honor will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
