Police blotter 7-11-14

Tuesday, July 1

A Victorville man was arrested for burglary after leaving a bloody trail of evidence. Roman Henderson, 21, was spotted by a neighbor jumping over a rear wall with two unknown suspects on the 600 block of Silvertree Road around 8:15 p.m. The neighbor kept his eye on Mr. Henderson, who was bleeding from his right hand, and directed police to his location. After conducting a search of the residence, officers found that nothing had been taken, although a screen was removed from a window and blood was located on three exterior door handles, an exterior wall and on top of a block wall on the east side of the residence. Mr. Henderson was transported to Montclair Hospital Medical Center for treatment. The two unknown suspects remain at large.

Wednesday, July 2

In California, riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol is against the law and Pomona resident Thomas Fedele learned that lesson. The 44-year-old was traveling north on Indian Hill Boulevard from Auto Center Drive around 11:30 p.m. when an officer spotted him riding through a red light, weaving in and out of a traffic lane and nearly colliding with a vehicle. According to Lieutenant Mike Cizsek, the officer stopped Mr. Fedele and determined the bicyclist was under the influence. The suspect was arrested with a BAC of more than twice the legal limit and was released on $250 bail.

Thursday, July 3

A Claremont resident backing his vehicle out of a parking space struck a fire hydrant, sending a fountain of Golden State water 30 feet into the air. Police and Los Angeles County firefighters were called to the 500 block of East Base Line Road around 6:50 p.m. after a red Ford truck sheared the hydrant from its post. The Vons Shopping Center was closed for about 25 minutes while the water main was shut down. The 65-year-old male driver was not injured in the collision and Golden State Water Company says it intends to settle the bill with the insurance company.

Friday. July 4

An uncooperative Pomona resident caused quite a ruckus at The Press Restaurant, bringing Claremont officers to the location, not once but twice. The end result was  his arrest for public intoxication. Around 1:49 a.m., Ali Abdi told police he’d been punched by an unknown person, but didn’t want to press charges. Officers left the location, only to return a few minutes later to respond to another call involving Mr. Abdi. Police determined the 24-year-old was too wasted to care for himself, so they took him to the station where he was booked and released after detoxing.

A 17-year-old girl riding her bicycle was knocked unconscious following a collision and was airlifted to the hospital at around 9:30 p.m. The Claremont resident was riding on the sidewalk and traveling eastbound on Arrow Highway near Piedmont Avenue when she collided with a light pole, knocking her unconscious. Officers and medics arrived on scene and the teenager was airlifted to County USC Medical Center. Her condition is unknown at this time.

Saturday, July 5

A couple of teenagers from Los Angeles ended up in juvenile hall after Claremont officers busted the duo breaking into vehicles near the 10 freeway. At least five cars along the 800 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard had their windows smashed when officers investigating the incident identified the suspects as 15-year-old and 16-year-old boys seen running from one of the vehicles. Both delinquents were arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools. They were transported to the Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall where they were held for bail and court.

An unknown thief impersonating a pooch entered the home of a Claremont resident through the family pet’s unlocked doggy door. The burglar crawled into the residence located on the 1500 block of Marjorie Avenue around 2:30 p.m. and ransacked the residence, making off with a $400 gaming console, a $300 iPad Air, a $300 iPod, $60 in cash and miscellaneous jewelry. There are no suspects.

Sunday, July 6

A Claremont resident parked his car in the driveway with the windows down and was shocked to discover a thief had found a way to break into the vehicle and steal all his stuff. Located on the1500 block of Whittier Avenue, the unknown suspect reached through the car’s unrolled driver’s side window, popped the trunk and removed the contents totaling $480. The missing items include a nylon drumstick bag, drumsticks and mallets, an auxiliary car charger, a phone charger, a driver’s identification card, a royal blue jacket and jumper cables.

Did you know that the T-Mobile Test Drive offers every American an iPhone 5s with unlimited service on T-Mobile’s network for a full seven days—completely free? Jacob Johnson was clearly unfamiliar with the offer, ssince he tried to steal a phone from a local T-Mobile store. Around 11:15 a.m., the Upland resident entered the store without cash or credit cards and made his way to a display shelf holding the newest version of the iPhone. The 25-year-old broke the holder and attempted to detach the cable that was glued to the back of the phone. An employee witnessed Mr. Johnson’s attempt to steal the device and called police. The suspect then fled the scene. Officers located Mr. Johnson walking nearby and he was taken into custody.

Monday, July 7

Following a lengthy investigation, Claremont police arrested Carlos Erazo Jovel for allegedly possessing child pornography. The investigation into the 28-year-old began earlier this year when the Claremont Police Department and the Upland Police Department received four separate “Cyber-Tips” between January and March regarding the possible possession of child pornography.

Working in partnership with the Los Angeles Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the departments began their investigation, ultimately leading detectives to the Montclair home of the suspect. Evidence found at the home confirmed Mr. Jovel lived there, however, the suspect was not located at the residence. Detectives later learned he was scheduled to appear in court on July 7 for an unrelated drug charge and took him into custody at that time. Mr. Jovel was transported to Claremont Police Department, where he was booked and later transported to West Valley Detention Center. Bail was set at $20,000. He remains in custody.
