Wednesday, November 27

A loud exit caused problems for a pair of customers at the AM/PM at 701 E. Foothill Blvd. After the cashier refused to accept their $100 bill, 47-year-old Brett Toston of Long Beach and 39-year-old Kevin Tierney of El Monte became angry with the storekeeper, allegedly throwing change and hitting an ice chest before leaving the store, according to the police report. The cashier called the police, who stopped the vehicle Mr. Toston was driving just down the street. A search of the vehicle and both subjects revealed two plastic bags of methamphetamine and several syringes. Mr. Toston was additionally found to be driving with a suspended driver’s license. They were arrested.

Thursday, November 28

A 22-year-old Rancho Cucamonga resident was arrested Thursday night after using a stun gun to rob a guest staying at the Claremont Lodge, located at 736 S. Indian Hill Blvd. The female hotel guest, a 21-year-old from Fresno, had invited Matthias McCullough into her motel room around 7:30 p.m. when he attacked her with the gun, attempted to duct tape her and stole cash and a cell phone, according to Claremont police. During the incident, the woman sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene by paramedics. Though Mr. McCullough was able to flee the motel, he didn’t get very far. He was arrested several blocks away and held at the Claremont jail for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $100,000.

Friday, November 29

Terence Adkins, 57, of Ontario landed in trouble with police on Friday night after allegedly threatening a fellow Starbucks patron with a hypodermic syringe, according to police reports. Officers caught up with Mr. Adkins down the street from the South Indian Hill Starbucks, where he admitted to being in possession of the syringe. At first he said it belonged to his daughter, who was diabetic. He later asserted he had found it on the ground. Mr. Adkins was arrested and later released with a citation.

Monday, December 2

A Claremont resident and his 4-year-old son got a frightening early-morning wakeup call on Monday from Chucky, the star of the 1988 horror film Child’s Play. Both were asleep in their apartment located in the 900 block of West Arrow Highway when a man disguised in a Chucky mask began banging on their bedroom window. The masked figure ran away, but the resident had effectively been spooked into action, catching up with the perpetrator, a juvenile who resided in the same apartment complex, just down the street. Police gave the teenager a citation and released him to his mother.

Blaisdell Park became an impromptu dumping ground on Monday night when a Claremont couple decided to unload more than 30 gallons of hazardous waste just 50 feet from the playground, according to a police report.

Ammonia, landscape waste and PVC cement were among the components of the liquid found disposed of at the property, causing an estimated $2,000 in damage, according to Det. Robert Ewing. A business card was also found on park grounds, which lead police to a nearby residence. Officers noted that the home’s lawn appeared to have recently been landscaped and the car in the driveway matched the vehicle description of the incident. Residents Garrett Navo, 22, and Gabrielle Alexander, 20, admitted to dumping the hazardous materials. They were arrested and cited for illegal dumping and will be charged with reimbursing the city for damages.
