CHS basketball gets jump-start with early-season wins
The boys and girls basketball teams are off to a hot start this season, combining to go 3-0 in their first three contests this season.
The boys team, 2-0, has been impressive right out of the gates, with wins over Azusa on Monday and Rowland on Tuesday in the Sierra Vista Winter Tip-Off Tournament. The Wolfpack defeated Azusa, 80-21, and took it to Rowland, 59-36, the next night.
Senior Omar Mahmoud has been the leading scorer for Claremont, totaling 18 and 13 points in the first two contests. Sophomore Harlan Maass has the highest single-game output this year after shooting 7-13 and netting 20 points against Azusa on Monday.
The girls team topped Lamar, 45-24, on November 26 in their season opener. Senior Jessica Abrolat led the team with 12 points on 6-12 shooting. Junior Katie Porter totaled nine points, while seniors Mykiah Trotter, Kegee Limbe and Haley Baker scored six a piece.
Results from yesterday’s boys match against Colony and girls match against Providence were not available at press time.
The boys will continue to compete in the Sierra Vista Winter Tip-Off Tournament today and tomorrow. The opponents have yet to be determined. The girls team is off until December 16 when they face Gladstone in the San Dimas Tournament.
Soccer competition heats up next week
The 2013-14 soccer season is finally underway. The girls team kicked off their season yesterday against Diamond Bar and will take on Rialto today and Royal tomorrow. After a 4-4 tie against Montclair on Wednesday, the boys team will face Alta Loma on Tuesday.
