San Antonio Community Hospital (SACH) has reached another milestone in the construction progress of their new four-story patient tower and expanded emergency department.  The expansion project is the largest in the hospital’s 105-year history and will add 179,000 sq. ft. of new space. 

The new 4-story patient tower will be equipped with modern amenities and 92 private beds, 12 of which are critical care.  The expansion will also add 8,000 square feet to the hospital’s Emergency Department, an expansion long overdue to address current and future patient volume.  Plans also include a new fountain and front entry, main lobby, gift shop, and media education center.

While construction work is in full swing, there has been no impact to healthcare services for patients.  All hospital departments are fully operational.  The construction work is primarily taking place adjacent to the hospital with very little impact to the existing building other than a reconfigured main entrance. 

“This is an exciting time in our hospital’s history,” states Harris F. Koenig, President and Chief Executive Officer of SACH.  “While the outside construction is an extensive project, we are continuing to deliver the award-winning care we are known for.”

Because of the impact of this project, hospital officials have taken measures to reduce any inconvenience to patients and their families by offering free valet parking to all visitors.   The drive-up valet service is near the newly relocated front entrance.
