Webb sports discovers their winning ways; CHS has tough week
Webb boys basketball continued their impressive start to the season with 3 wins in the School for the Deaf Tournament, and a 1st place finish. The Gauls outlasted Temecula Prep 64-38 in the first game. The penultimate game was a dramatic 50-48 victory over Cal Murrieta. Silas Gaines scored 24 points and had 4 steals, while Hector Herrada had 12 points. In the final, the Gauls cruised to a 64-28 win against Hamilton, with Gaines scoring 30 points on 60% shooting. Herrada had 12 points and 2 steals. Scores from Webb’s games in the Albuquerque Tournament will be in Wednesday’s COURIER.
Vivian Webb girls basketball won 2 games and lost 1, finishing 2nd in the tournament. Webb beat Exelsior 44-28, with Barb Smith scoring 20 points and Tristan Duque scoring 12. The Gauls beat Sherman Indian 30-28, with Smith leading all scorers with 14 points, Duque scoring 8 points and grabbing 11 boards, and Hailey Beaman chipping in with 4 points and 14 rebounds. The next night, Webb was unable to hold defensively and they lost 43-30 to Ontario. Beaman had 38 rebounds in the tournament. Webb next travels to Apple Valley on Tuesday, December 18 at 5:00 pm.
Webb boys soccer won both of their games last week, putting forth an offensive clinic against Loma Linda and Sage Hill. Against Loma Linda, Justin Chandrasekhar scored 2, and Daniel Crisostomo, Joseph Rode, and Cole Albert also found the net for the Gauls for a 5-1 victory. Webb then matched that total with a 5-2 win against Sage Hill. Crisostomo scored a hat trick, and Rode and Chandrasekhar scored one each. The undefeated Gauls host Crean Lutheran Saturday, December 15 at 11:30 am.
Vivian Webb girls soccer also won all their games last week in emphatic fashion. The Gauls began by defeating Whittier Christian 3-0, beating Loma Linda 4-1, then handling Western Christian by a 4-0 scoreline. Lauren West scored in the 1st half, then Madi Henn scored twice, and Kristen Swift scored once to give the Gauls a key victory. The Gauls now possess a 3-1 record. Vivian Webb will travel to Chadwick on Tuesday, December 18.
Vivian Webb girls water polo played in the Los Altos Tournament last weekend, but were unable to come away with any wins. Top tournament performers for the Gauls were Lianne Parker, Lindsay Powell, Shannon Torrance, and Madison Hartman. Vivian Webb nest travels to Flintridge on Tuesday, December 18 at 3:30 pm.
Claremont girls basketball had a rough week, dropping 3 games and winning one. The Wolfpack beat Walnut 55-36, Sharon Stannislaus scoring 19 points including 4 3-pointers, and Jessica Abrolat scoring 10 points. However, Claremont lost 66-50 to Jurupa Valley the following night. In the weekend tournament, the Wolfpack lost 53-24 to Diamond Ranch, and 45-35 to Colony. The Wolfpack will resume the season January 9.
Claremont boys soccer split last week’s games against Glendora and Chino. The Wolfpack got 2nd half goals to beat Glendora 3-1. Claremont was unable to carry that momentum into the next match. The Wolfpack fell behind 2 goals and were unable to catch up, losing 3-1 to Chino. The Wolfpack then traveled to Alta Loma and played out a goalless draw. Claremont travels to Bonita on Monday, December 17 at 3:15 to play a rescheduled match. After that, Claremont resumes its season January 9.
