Registration next week

There are a number of key dates students and parents of the Claremont Unified School District should keep in mind, starting with the first day of school on Wednesday, August 29.

Claremont High School

Registration at Claremont High School starts this week, beginning with seniors on Monday, August 20, followed by juniors on Tuesday, August 21, sophomores on Wednesday, August 22 and freshmen on Thursday, August 23. Registration on each day runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Makeup registration will be held Friday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Freshman orientation will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 23 at Taylor Hall (1775 N. Indian Hill Blvd.)

El Roble Intermediate School

At El Roble Intermediate School, eighth grade registration will be held on Wednesday, August 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Seventh graders will register the following day, Thursday, August 23, during the same hours. Picture day will be held concurrent with registration.

Registration will be followed by a new-student orientation on Friday, August 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at El Roble.

All students entering seventh grade are required to have proof of receiving the tDap shot prior to registration.

Leader of the ‘Pack

If the first day of school seems to be just around the corner, the first Claremont High School varsity football home game is even earlier, with the Wolfpack facing Great Oak High School on Friday, August 24 at 7 p.m.

CUSD celebrates

On Monday, September 3 there will be no school as the district observes Labor Day.

Another holiday of sorts will be celebrated on Thursday, September 20 during Claremont Day at the Fair. The event, which is organized by members of the Claremont Community Committee, will include performances by the CHS and El Roble bands, a small parade and a Claremont Community Hero awards ceremony.

Hire education

There will be a number of new faces seen throughout the district, and a few missing this year.  Seven teachers and 2 school counselors retired at the end of last year, and 5 certificated staff members are taking leaves of absence with temporary staff employed for the year while they are away.

About 14 new certificated staffers will take their place in CUSD this year, including 2 new counselors to be stationed at El Roble and Claremont High Schools. Some of these staffers have been previously employed in a different capacity and are taking on new positions, while others may be moving from temporary status to full-time or from part-time positions to full-time jobs.  

Next school board meeting

The next meting of the CUSD Board of Education is Wednesday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center (170 W. San Jose Ave., Claremont).
