CUSD board approves timeline for superintendent search

Claremont Unified School District plans to have its next superintendent in place by June 2012.

The CUSD board unanimously approved a resolution at Thursday’s board meeting that will begin with developing a request for proposal in October to be sent out to executive search firms in November. The board would then decide on a search firm in February 2012 and spend the next few months interviewing candidates before appointing a new superintendent.

“I think this timeline should give us plenty of time to find a superintendent for next summer,” said CUSD Board President Beth Bingham.

Dr. Gloria Johnston became interim superintendent of CUSD in February after former Superintendent Terry Nichols resigned from the position to return to Duarte Unified School District. Dr. Nichols was in the 2nd year of a contract that would have lasted through 2014.

With former CUSD Superintendent David Cash serving from 2006 through 2009, the district will now appoint its 3rd superintendent in 6 years. Dr. Johnston is currently slated to serve as interim superintendent through the end of the 2011-12 school year.

A full report of last night’s board meeting will be published in Wednesday’s edition.
