Claremont Unified School District Board President Beth Bingham will not run for a 2nd board term this November.

The health issues of her husband, Paul, was the primary reason Ms. Bingham decided she would not enter this year’s race. Mr. Bingham has been recovering from encephalitis and a recent bone marrow transplant.

Ms. Bingham was originally elected to the school board in 2007 along with fellow board member Hilary LaConte. During her time on the board, she has served as board president, vice president and the board liaison to several committees including the Youth and Family Master Plan.

As of Wednesday, the CUSD election race currently only has Ms. LaConte and former board member Sam Mowbray as filed candidates. Claremont resident Joe Farrell pulled papers on July 21st but had not filed through August 10th. The seats of Ms. LaConte and Ms. Bingham are up for grabs on November 8th.

Ms. Bingham’s term will conclude when the CUSD board holds its annual organizational meeting in November. With the board president not running for re-election, the board is guaranteed to have a different face later this year.
