School board faces numerous key votes in upcoming meeting

The Claremont Unified School District Board of Education will have no less than 30 items to vote on during Thursday’s board meeting.

The ratification of the Surplus Property advisory committee recommendation, authorization to enter into an agreement with Tierra Development for an exclusive listing agreement, new job descriptions and a Reduction in Force for the district’s classified employees are just a sampling of what board members will vote on inside the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center at 7 p.m.

CUSD’s property at 2010 N. Mountain Avenue was the subject of the Surplus Property Advisory Committee’s report during the May 19th board meeting. The committee recommended that the board move forward with declaring a portion of the district site as “surplus” and sell it at the highest and best use value. The board’s vote on Thursday will allow the property to go up for sale.

The district is looking enter into an agreement with Tierra Development so the organization can provide assistance in marketing and selling the surplus property. According to district documents, if CUSD enters into the agreement, then Tierra Development will be paid from proceeds of the sale of the property.

Due to the growth of the CUSD Nutrition Services program, the district will seek to alter the job description of the “Nutrition Services Support Specialist” to include updated duties. The elimination of the Director of Special Projects position at the June 16th meeting has led to the creation of the “Coordinator of Categorical Programs” position that would include some of the responsibilities of the former position and the “Coordinator of English Learners” position. The position would be funded through Categorical Program funds.

A decrease in district funding has the board voting on implementing a Reduction in Force among its classified employees. The affected positions include an adult school aide, campus monitor, child development program assistant, computer instructional assistant, library assistant and paraeducator.
