Obituary: Joanne Phyllis Arnold
Great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, volunteer, longtime Claremonter
Joanne Phyllis Arnold died peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2021. She was 96.
Joanne was born July 13, 1925 in Toledo, Ohio to Herbert and Phyllis Trost. She was raised in Toledo, and after high school enrolled at Michigan State University before later transferring to the University of Michigan. She was a member of the Tri Delta sorority.
On June 16, 1947 she married the love of her life, John (Jack) Arnold. They made their home in Owosso, Michigan, where their four children were born and delivered by their grandfather, Dr. A.L. Arnold Jr.
The Arnolds moved to Claremont in 1963. She was employed by Baxter Medical at the Claremont Colleges, was an active member of the PEO International, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
She was also a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in La Verne.
The Arnolds spent their retirement years between their cottage on Mullett Lake, near Indian River, Michigan, and their home in Claremont.
She is survived by daughters Sally McMahon of San Jose, California, and Molly Rasmussen (Jerry) of St. George, Utah; sons John Jr. (Linda) of Claremont; and Les of Harbor Springs, Michigan; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother Richard and her husband John (Jack) Arnold.
There will be no service and her ashes will be spread at sea.
