Benton offers free film series in July
Pomona College’s Benton Museum of Art, 120 W. Bonita Ave., continues its first ever free summer film series with a showing of Warner Bros. 2004 romance and drama, “Before Sunset” at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21.
The film follows two strangers (Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy), who met by chance nine years prior in Vienna and spent a night together before parting when the sun rose the following day. “Now, they’re about to cross paths again — in Paris — where they will get the chance we all wish we had,” read a press release.
Attendees are invited to bring blankets, chairs, and snacks to watch “some of the greatest films ever made,” according to the Benton. This month the museum is focusing on French films and will hold short discussions following the showings.
The Benton’s month of movies will conclude Thursday, July 28 with an 8 p.m. showing of Agnès Varda’s 1962 classic, “Cléo from 5 to 7.”
“Varda eloquently captures Paris in the sixties with this real-time portrait of a singer (Corinne Marchand) set adrift in the city as she awaits test results of a biopsy,” Criterion Collection wrote. “A chronicle of the minutes of one woman’s life, Cléo from 5 to 7 is a spirited mix of vivid vérité and melodrama, featuring a score by Michel Legrand (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) and cameos by Jean-Luc Godard and Anna Karina.”
All films are presented through a grant by the Pomona College Wellness Taskforce. Attendees are welcome to watch the featured films or walk the museum until it closes at 10 p.m. on Thursdays.
