‘Under the Sun’ up at the Benton

The Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College has opened Los Angeles-based artist Christina Fernandez’s exhibit, “Under the Sun.” It will be on view through December 18.

The exhibition features photographic installations that touch on topics such as “labor, land and light” and “places them in dialogue with objects the artist selected from the Benton’s collection,” according to a news release.

The show is said to amplify viewers’ ability to experience the “reverberation of themes, topics, and forms across what might initially be considered disparate objects and artworks.”

The Benton, 120 W. Bonita Ave., Claremont, is always free and open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The museum is open until 10 p.m. Thursdays for Art After Hours.

Fernandez’s exhibition is the latest in a series that invites contemporary artists to engage with and contextualize the Benton’s collection. By integrating artists with the collection, the museum encourages “insightful discussions about how we learn, how we evaluate ideas, and how we connect the visual to other forms of information.”
