The Los Angeles County Public Library is hosting two free and open to the public virtual author talks on Tuesday, September 27.

At 1 p.m., Pulitzer Prize finalist and PEN/Faulkner Award winner Hernan Diaz will discuss his latest book, “Trust.” Then at 6 p.m., author Russell Low will discuss his latest book, “The All-American Crew.”

“Trust” is set during the roar of the 1920s around Wall Street tycoon Benjamin Rask and his wife, Helen. The two rose to the top of the world, but at what cost? Their tales of success seem eerily similar to a book titled “Bonds,” a 1937 novel all of New York seemed to have read.

Other versions of this tale of privilege and deceit exist, but Trust “elegantly puts these competing narratives into conversation with one another—and in tension with the perspective of one woman bent on disentangling fact from fiction,” the library wrote online. “The result is a novel that spans over a century and becomes more exhilarating with each new revelation.”

“The All-American Crew” recounts the story of a World War II B-24 Liberator bomber, whose 10-man crew included his uncle Stanley, seemingly disappeared in the Pacific Ocean near New Guinea on January 23, 1943.

Their families never knew what happened to them, but 80 years later, the crew’s long-forgotten letters and photographs tell their stories in Russell’s new narrative nonfiction work.
