On Monday, November 28, Claremont McKenna College’s Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, 385 E. Eighth St., Claremont, hosts a free, open to the public 12:45 p.m. program, “Racism across Disciplines.”

Panelists include Chloe Martinez, program coordinator of the Center for Writing and Public Discourse and a lecturer in CMC’s Department of Religious Studies; Bhaven Mistry, assistant director of the Murty-Sunak quantitative and computing lab and assistant professor of mathematics; Jessamyn Schaller, associate professor of economics in the Robert Day School of Economics and Finance; Diana Selig, the Kingsley Croul Associate Professor of History and George R. Roberts Fellow; and Aseema Sinha, the Wagener Family Professor of Comparative Politics and George R. Roberts Fellow.

The college announced its presidential initiative on anti-racism and the Black experience in America in spring 2021. It is a faculty fellows program meant to “enhance the capacity of CMC faculty to address issues of race, racism, and Black experiences in their teaching and service to the college,” read a news release.

“Faculty selected for the program received support to conduct independent projects related to pedagogy, professional development, and curricular development,” the description continued. “Members of the inaugural class of fellows will present their work spanning such disciplines as economics, mathematics, writing, history, and politics.”
