On February 1, Pasadena City Council member and Vice Mayor Felicia Williams announced her candidacy for the 41st State Assembly District, which spans from La Cañada Flintridge to Rancho Cucamonga, including Claremont. State Senator Anthony Portantino, whose Senate District 25 overlaps the 41st, endorsed Williams’s candidacy.

Born and raised in Pasadena, Williams has served on local nonprofit boards including Pasadena Educational Foundation, Planned Parenthood Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley, and the Pasadena Police Foundation. Prior to being elected to the City Council in 2020, she held positions on Pasadena’s planning, environmental, and transportation commissions, as well as convention center and Rose Bowl boards.

“Our region and our state are facing many challenges, including access to housing that’s affordable, improving our infrastructure, expanding access to quality education, and combatting climate change,” Williams said in a statement. “In the State Assembly, I will bring my decades of professional experience in land use, finance, and environment to Sacramento and create policy that is practical, thoughtful, and responsive to the needs of our Foothill communities.”

Williams currently serves as Vice President of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Commission, as a council member of Foothill Transit Board Executive Committee, and as a board member of the Los Angeles County Sanitation District. Also a finance professional, Williams worked previously with cities and counties surrounding Pasadena to deploy major infrastructure projects, including electric, water and sewer systems, parks, public transportation, and fire stations according to a news release.
