Police Blotter: March 31, 2023
Wednesday, March 8
Officers responded at 9:26 p.m. to a residence in the 100 block of E. American Avenue for a family disturbance. The reporting party said her husband was intoxicated, and during an altercation grabbed his 26-year-old daughter by the hair. The victim said she wanted to have the 50-year-old Claremont man prosecuted and he was arrested for misdemeanor battery and child endangerment because a younger child allegedly witnessed the fight. He was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Tuesday, March 14
Police received 10:42 p.m. call about a man who had allegedly stolen an item from the Chevron/McDonald’s, 860 S. Indian Hill Blvd. A witness provided a description of the suspect, who was later identified as Pomona resident Gary Alridge, 29. Arriving officers located Alridge on San Bernardino Avenue, but when they tried to question him, he reportedly fled on foot. Police chased him a short distance to San Simeon Street in Pomona where they were able to arrest him. During a records check it was discovered he had a parole hold warrant. Alridge was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, resisting arrest, and for the warrant. He was taken to the CPD jail where he was booked and later transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
Police were called at 11:18 p.m. regarding a man trying to sell items to customers inside the Norms Restaurant, 807 S. Indian Hill Blvd. and refusing to leave. Police located the man, Dilbert Jackson, 29, of Hesperia. Officers initially decided to let Jackson go on his way, but later a records check showed he had a no-bail parole warrant. A short time later police got another call about Jackson who was then inside the 7-Eleven store at Indian Hill and San Bernardino Road. Officers went to that location and took Jackson into custody. During a search, officers allegedly found methamphetamine on him. He was arrested for the warrant and the drugs, taken to the Claremont jail and later transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
Wednesday, March 15
At 7:26 p.m. police received a call about a speeding driver who was missing a front tire in the area of Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue. When police arrived they spotted the car, which they said had a shredded front tire and a smashed windshield. Officers attempted to pull over the driver, later identified as Pomonan Francis Hopkins, 31, but he drove away heading east on San Jose. Hopkins pulled into a driveway of his parents’ house on Clark Avenue where police were able to question him. Officers performed a field sobriety test which they said showed Hopkins was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and evading police, taken to the CPD jail where he was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Thursday, March 16
Police were called at 9:37 p.m. about a traffic collision near the intersection of Claremont Boulevard at Sixth Street. When officers arrived, they reported that a Claremont McKenna College golf cart allegedly driven by San Jacinto resident Dakota Yang, 32, had been involved in a minor wreck with a car. Police said Yang displayed symptoms of intoxication and was stumbling. They performed field sobriety tests which allegedly showed that he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Furthermore, police said he is a campus safety employee and was operating the golf cart while on duty. He was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and taken to the CPD jail where he was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Friday, March 17
Police received a call at 8 p.m. about a couple fighting near Towne Avenue and Scripps Drive. When police arrived, they found Palm Desert resident Roy Hoffman, 53, near his car and said he appeared to be drunk. A short time later a woman showed up with a child and allegedly told police the couple had been at a wedding where Hoffman had been drinking. She reportedly told police they were arguing about his reckless driving and that the child was in the vehicle. A field sobriety test allegedly showed that Hoffman was drunk. He was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and child abuse, taken to the CPD jail where he was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Saturday, March 18
From 6 p.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday Claremont police conducted a special St. Patrick’s Day drunk driver detail sponsored through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Two vehicles, each with two officers, patrolled the city for the entire eight hours making one unlicensed driver and four DUI and arrests. Maria Ross, 35, of Murrieta, Nathaniel Crabb, 25 of Upland and Lester Gonzalez-Quinonez, 33 of Pomona were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Kristina Feser, 37, of Pomona was arrested for DUI drugs.
Monday, March 20
At 5:18 p.m. officers responded to Mountain and San Jose avenues about a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, they reported seeing a car parked in front of a residence on Mountain with Juan Mata, 40, of Pomona asleep in the driver’s seat. A field sobriety test allegedly showed Mata was intoxicated. He was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and taken to the Pomona jail, where he was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Wednesday, March 22
Officers allegedly saw a vehicle run the stop sign at San Jose and Mountain avenues at 8:08 p.m. and conducted a traffic stop. When speaking to the driver, Montclair resident Memorie Ramos, 41, officers said she appeared to be intoxicated and noted that her sons, ages 16 and 17, were in the car. Police said a field sobriety test confirmed Ramos was driving under the influence. A records check showed she also had a suspended license for a previous DUI conviction and had active misdemeanor warrants for driving on a suspended license and speeding. She was arrested on a slew of misdemeanor charges including child endangerment, DUI, the warrants, and a new charge of driving on a suspended license. Ramos was taken to the CPD jail where she was booked, held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Friday, March 24
Claremont police hosted a San Gabriel Valley multi-agency enforcement detail from 2 to 11 p.m. with the goal of addressing problem areas in town. The officers performed probation checks, ensured sex offenders were registered, patrolled the motel area near the 10 Freeway, and conducted common traffic enforcement. The detail netted two warrant arrests. At 8:53 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on Jerardo Flores, 23, from Pomona, in the 800 block of S. Indian Hill because he allegedly had an inoperable brake light. A records check revealed he had five no-bail warrants in San Bernardino County. At 10:30 p.m. officers made a traffic stop on Pomona resident David Diaz, 48, at Indian Hill Boulevard and Kingsley Avenue in Pomona. While checking his background, police said they found he had an active felony warrant. Both men were arrested and taken to the CPD jail where they were booked. Flores was later transferred to West Valley Detention Center and Diaz was held for court.
