Curtain rises June 26 on Camp IVRT
Inland Valley Repertory Theatre kicks off its 15th annual Camp IVRT, a musical theatre summer camp for children ages 7 to 13, Monday, June 26, at Claremont Community School of Music, 951 W. Foothill Blvd.
The five-week camp, overseen by professional teaching artists and high school aged assistants, will help youth with improv and vocal techniques, how to audition for roles, read and memorize monologues and cold readings, develop a character, and dance.
The camp is broken into four Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. sessions. In sessions one (June 26 to 30), two (July 10 to 14), and three (July 17 to 21), students will learn acting basics, singing, and movement. In the fourth session, a two-week performance camp from July 24 to August 4, students will work with a local playwright to create an original play with songs from Broadway musicals. A final demonstration recital is held on the last day of camp.
Weekly session prices vary. Scholarships are available thanks to recent grant funding from the California Arts Council through the Creative Youth Development grant program, as well as funding from the City of Claremont through its Community Based Organizations grant program.
