Friday, June 9

  • Upland’s 2023 Lemon Festival returns today at 305 N. Second Ave. The annual three-day event is free and open to the public and features carnival rides, games, food, vendors, and live music. The festival is open from 3 to 11 p.m. today, and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. June 10 and 11.   • The pathways to success teen club, hosted by the Ayudar Foundation, meets at the Pomona Public Library, 625 S. Garey Ave., every second Saturday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The free service offers life skills workshops, financial education, and other programs to prepare teenagers for adulthood. Sunday, June 11

  • The 2023 Claremont Heritage gala auction closes today at noon, with opportunities to bid on ceramics, art and crafts by local artists including Karl Benjamin, Millard Sheets, and others. Proceeds support Claremont Heritage programs and the preservation of the city’s architectural and cultural history. The auction is accessible at claremontheritage.org.

Saturday, June 17

 

  • Pomona residents can pick up free compost at the public works city yard, 636 W. Monterey Ave., from 8 a.m. to noon. This is a self-serve event and guests must bring an I.D., a water or refuse utility bill, shovel, gloves, and a sturdy container. Compost is available while supplies last with a limit of four 32-gallon containers. Visit pomonaca.gov for details.

 

  • Ashlee Armstrong, assistant director of horticulture at the California Botanic Garden, 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont, will explain gardening for butterflies beginning at 8:30 a.m. The course is $25, $20 for CalBG members.
