Obituary: Marguerite “Peg” Helena (Belair) Swanberg

Longtime Claremonter, reader, beloved great-grandmother

Longtime Claremont resident Marguerite “Peg” Helena (Belair) Swanberg died July 7. She was 92.

Peg was born June 15, 1931, in Massachusetts, the son of Emile J. and Gertrude (McGurn) Belair. She married her loving husband Melvin E. Swanberg, Sr. in Massachusetts and they later moved to California, where he had work as an electrical engineer and inventor. They raised their five children in Claremont.

She enjoyed reading, particularly historic novels, talking about politics, and following the royal family. She loved dogs and deeply grieved the loss of her rescued longtime companion Annie.

Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Melvin; and her siblings Frank, Emile, Grace, Gertrude, and Florence.

She will be remembered by her surviving family members including her children, Susan Swanberg (Richard Wood), Jill Swanberg, Jennifer Swanberg (Jacqueline Madsen), Kristine Overley (Kevin O’Brien), Melvin Swanberg, Jr. (Tisza Swanberg); grandchildren Justin Adler-Swanberg, Dana Zelenka, Sarah Robinson, Alex Anderson-Natale (Kayleigh Anderson-Natale), Nichole Collins, Danielle Kaiser (Gregg Kaiser), Scott Swanberg (Susan Swanberg), Brian Swanberg (Danielle Swanberg), Elenore Swanberg, and Daniel Swanberg; nine great-grandchildren; and her dear sister Mildred Conway. She is also survived by many loving extended family members, friends, and community members.

The family would like to especially thank her daughter Kristine and granddaughter Danielle for their compassionate coordination of her care.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Marguerite Swanberg’s name to Priceless Pet Rescue at pricelesspetrescue.org/donate, or by check to 15350 Fairfield Ranch Rd., suite I, Chino Hills, CA 91709.
