Claremont High School

Football (0-4)

Claremont put up a good fight but came up short, 40-20, September 8 at Henry J. Kaiser High School in Fontana. The team is hoping to snap a four-game losing streak at 7 p.m. Friday when Alta Loma comes to town.

The Pack are off next week and return to action Friday, September 29 with a 7 p.m. game against South Hills at Covina District Field.

Boys and girls cross-country

Results from the September 8 preseason meet at Ayala: Claremont seniors L’Mio Edwards (18.11.50), Denise Jie Yi Chen (18:12.34), and sophomore Isla Bulmer (18:24.70) took the top three spots in the girls three-mile race. Senior Max Neely placed highest for the boys, taking fourth with a time of 15:13.33. Full results are at athletic.net.

The teams are at Great Park in Irvine Saturday for the 42nd annual Woodbridge Classic. The first race is at 3:50 p.m. After, Claremont heads to Craig Regional Park in Fullerton Saturday, September 23 for the 16th annual Wayne Walker Invitational.

Girls tennis (2-1)

Following last week’s loss to Great Oak, the Pack beat Rancho Cucamonga 14-4 on Monday, then won 10-8 at Santiago High School on Wednesday.

League play begins Tuesday, September 19 when Alta Loma drops by Claremont, followed by Glendora Thursday, September 21.

Girls volleyball (7-4)

Glendora handed the Wolfpack a 3-1 home loss Monday. Claremont bounced back at Colony Wednesday, coming away with a 3-0 win.

The team is at Chino Hills Friday at 3:30 p.m., at Bonita at 4 p.m. Monday, September 18, then welcome Ayala at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 20.

Girls golf (4-0)

CHS beat visiting Los Osos September 7, 210-222, then bested Bonita at home Wednesday, 200-255 to begin league play. The team was at Glendora Country Club after press time Thursday.

The Wolfpack travels to Los Serranos Golf Course to face Ayala at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20. Bonita comes to Marshall Canyon Thursday, September 21 for a 2 p.m. tee time.

Boys water polo (0-1)

Claremont opened its season with a 16-8 loss at Santiago Tuesday. The team played Upland after press time Thursday. Next up is a Saturday friendly at Chino Hills, then a home clash with Etiwanda at 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 19. CHS opens league play at Alta Loma Wednesday, September 27.

The Webb Schools

Football (2-0)

Webb aims to keep its momentum alive at Saturday’s 1 p.m. league home opener against Nuview Bridge. Next up is Silver Valley on the road at 7 p.m. Friday, September 22.

Boys and girls cross-country

Results from Tuesday’s league cluster and Friday’s 42nd Annual Woodbridge Classic at Great Park in Irvine are at athletic.net.

On Tuesday, September 26, the Gauls will host Montclair, Garey, and the Education First Academy of Pasadena.

Girls tennis (6-1)

Webb beat visiting South Hills, 10-8, September 7, then overcame Woodcrest Christian, 11-7, September 8, Western Christian on Monday, 11-7, and Big Bear on Tuesday, 17-1.

West Covina came by after press time Thursday. Mark Keppel arrives at 3:30 p.m. Monday, September 18.

Girls volleyball (5-5)

Webb shutout Big Bear, 3-0, at home on September 7, then welcomed SEED School of Los Angeles County Tuesday and came away with another 3-0 win. San Joaquin League play resumed after press time Thursday at Fairmont Prep.

The Gauls have an 11:30 a.m. doubleheader at Avalon Saturday, then a 4:30 p.m. match Tuesday, September 19 with Education First Academy in Pasadena. The Gauls are then at Tarbut V’ Torah at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 20.

Girls golf (2-0)

Tuesday’s match against Vista Meridian at Marshall Canyon was rescheduled to Monday, September 25. Webb was at Fullerton Golf Course to face Fairmont Prep after press time Thursday.

Play resumes Monday, September 18 with a 3:15 p.m. home contest with Tarbut V’ Torah.

Boys water polo (7-3)

Results from the Westminster Varsity Water Polo Tournament: Webb opened play with a close 10-8 win over Segerstrom September 8 before beating Cathedral 12-5 the following game. Segerstrom got its revenge September 9 with a 5-3 victory over the Gauls, who followed that with a 9-7 loss to Laguna Hills.

Webb began league play Tuesday with a dominant 20-1 victory at home over Sierra Vista. Next up is Workman on Friday, then Tuesday, September 19 at Nogales. Both games are set for 3:30 p.m.
