Claremont High School

Football (1-9)

Claremont lost 17-10 October 26 at Don Antonio Lugo High to finish San Antonio League play in third place with a 1-2 record.

Boys and girls cross-country

The teams are back in action at 9 a.m. Friday at Ruben Ayala High School in Chino Hills for the Palomares League finals. They then travel to Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut Friday, November 10 for CIF-Southern Section preliminaries.

Girls tennis (12-3)

Results from the October 26 Palomares League individual finals at the Claremont Club: in singles play, CHS junior Kate Emmert defeated fellow Claremont junior Catie Yarter, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 in the consolation final. In doubles action seniors Camila Fernandez and Kaili Hernandez defeated Janice Sum and Cindy Zhang of Bonita, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to be crowned Palomares League doubles champs. The pair will compete in the CIF individual doubles tournament beginning Monday, November 20. Senior Paige Ruffner and freshman Farah Ghafarshad downed teammates junior Keyra Miao and sophomore Nika Crisostomo, 6-2, 6-3 for third place honors and the alternate spot in the CIF individual doubles tournament.

California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section Division 1 team brackets went live Monday at cifss.org. Claremont opened play at home Wednesday with a 11-7 loss to Pacific Coast’s fourth place finishers Woodbridge High School.

Girls golf (8-1)

Results from the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 team tournament Monday at par 72 River Ridge Golf Course: the Wolfpack took fourth out of 20 teams with a combined total of 420; Crean Lutheran and St. Margaret’s tied for first at 398 while the Valencia Vikings captured third with 411 strokes. Claremont juniors Kristina Xu (74) and Riley Wang (75) lead the team with their combined shot count of 149. Meanwhile sophomores Taara Reddy (86), Ella Santiago (90), Kaitlyn Tirona (95) rounded out the overall score. Senior Nora Campbell shot a 97.

Though CHS are done as a team, Kristina and Riley competed at the CIF-Southern Section individual finals at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon after press time Thursday.

Boys water polo (10-10)

The Wolfpack (the Palomares League’s at-large team) began round one of the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 tournament Tuesday with a 24-7 loss at Beckman (Pacific Coast League title winners), capping the team’s season.

 

The Webb Schools

Football (7-1)

Webb wrapped Manzanita League play October 27, routing St. Jeanne de Lestonnac 68-6 in Temecula. Silver Valley also won big, defeating Nuview Bridge, 53-6, in Yermo. The Gauls finished second to Silver Valley in league play with a 4-1 record.

Webb begins round one of the CIF-Southern Section Division 14 tournament at 7 p.m. Friday at Lynwood High, the Mid-Cities League at-large bid, who finished 5-5. CIF-SS brackets went live October 29 at cifss.org.

Boys and girls cross-country

Results from the October 27 San Joaquin League finals at Mason Park: the varsity boys took second overall with a score of 69. Griffin Suttner (15:55.00) was the fourth runner to cross the finish line, followed by Stevan Silva (16:56.80) in 10th, Felipe Murillo (17:07.41), 12th, Austin Berg (17:40.60), 21st, and Isaac Nicolosi (17:42.70), 22nd. Finn Bulson also finished 26th at 17:53.91 but it did not count in the scoring. The varsity girls finished fourth with 112. Nicole Samson (18:15.80) finished third, followed by Jayden Aleman (22:03.90), 19th, Sydney Morales (23:03.80), 24th, Dessie Koehn (23:53.70), 29th, and Linda Meng (24:55.90), good for 37th. Annie Huang also took 38th at 25:01.

The junior varsity boys took first with 22 points.

The teams have this week off before heading to Mt. San Antonio College next week for CIF-Southern Section preliminaries.

Girls tennis (11-6)

Results from the October 26 San Joaquin League finals at Webb: Gauls sophomore Anna Park overcame Keira Kamath of Fairmont Prep, 7-5, 6-0 in singles play before losing 6-2, 6-4 to Sofia Barros of Anaheim Discovery Christian in the final. In doubles play, Webb juniors Saira Bhaget and Jasmine Beseth swept the Western Christian duo of Natalie Johnson  and Jenna Mills, 6-0, 6-0, before Pacifica Christian seniors Kiana Giunta and Lexie MacDougall gave them a taste of their own medicine, defeating the Gauls 6-0, 6-0. Anna as well as the team of Saira/Jasmine will participate in the CIF individual singles and doubles tournament next week.

Webb began round one of the California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section Division 4 team tournament Wednesday with a loss to Gateway League runner-up Warren, 11-7, to send them home for the season. Brackets are live at cifss.org.

Girls golf (8-3)

Results from CIF-SS Division 3 team tournament play Monday at the par 70 Jurupa Hills Golf Course: Webb placed 13th out of 20 teams with a shot total of 484. Freshman Miranda Li shot an 89 while senior Petrina Ong followed 93. Juniors Leia Albornoz (95), Alina Li (102), and Nicole Lee (105) rounded out the score. Junior Lauren Duffy shot a 106 but it did not factor into the team total.

Boys water polo (22-7)

The Gauls sunk Edgewood 21-7 at home October 26 to finish league play and were crowned Montview League champions with a spotless 15-0 record. The team hosted Hacienda League third place finishers Rowland Tuesday to begin the CIF-Southern Section Division 5 tournament, but lost, 11-6, ending their season.
