Boys and girls cross-country
Results from the Division 2 CIF-State race at Woodward Park November 25: The girls took fourth overall with 162 points. Senior Denise Jie Yi Chen (17:46.5) placed third; junior L’Mio Edwards was 11th at 18:06.5; sophomore Isla Bulmer was 13th at 18:06.9; junior Kaitlyn Smith 75th at 19:29; and senior Emily Noyes was 102nd at 19:50. Senior Alexa Gossett (19:53.8) was the 107th to finish while sophomore Joy Cheng took 144th at 20:26.1.

Girls tennis (12-3)
Results from the November 20 California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section doubles sectionals tournament at Marina High School: CHS seniors Kaili Hernandez and Camila Fernandez, Palomares League doubles champs, were awarded a first round bye before taking down Dana Hills High School duo Makenzie Bui and Concetta Ricciotti (Sea View League runners-up) in the first set, 6-2, before falling 6-3 in the second. They then played a tiebreaker (first to 10), winning 10-2. The Claremont duo was then swept in the third round, 6-0, 6-0, by Mater Dei’s Haley Tran and Chloe Vu, the Trinity League champs and eventual CIF-SS doubles tournament winners.
Boys soccer (1-0)
The Pack hosted Don Lugo December 1 and came away 3-2 victors. The team is off until Tuesday, December 12, when Bishop Amat comes to town at 5:30 p.m., followed by Chino Hills at 5 p.m. Friday, December 15.
Girls soccer (1-0)
The girls shutout La Quinta, 4-0, on December 4 to begin the Riverside Poly Tournament. Play continued after press time Thursday against Martin Luther King and Friday against TBD opposition. Results from that tourney and the CHS Holiday Classic, held across this and next weekend, will appear in the next sports roundup.
Claremont begins Palomares League play Monday, December 18 at Alta Loma. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
Boys basketball (3-3)
Results from the Northview Tournament: things got off to a rocky start when South Hills defeated the boys, 67-42, in the opening game on November 28. The Pack then roared back, dispatching Chaffey, 47-38, on November 29, then Bell Gardens, 57-52, December 1. Claremont capped things off December 2 with a 65-45 win over United Christian Academy.
The boys were at Montclair High for a tournament on Tuesday, losing 56-42 in their first game against Charter Oak. Action continued after press time Thursday against Wilson and Friday with Jurupa Valley. The Pack’s performance in those games will determine Saturday’s matchup. The boys host Workman at 7 p.m. Monday, December 11, then Los Osos at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14.
Girls basketball (4-2)
Results from the Downey tournament: the team opened the tourney and season November 21 with a 44-29 win over South Torrance, and followed that with a 63-9 rout of Santa Clara on November 22. The Pack then lost by just one point twice in a row, falling 31-30 to hosts Downey on November 24 and again, 41-40 to King Drew Magnet on November 25.
The Pack then hosted Corona Del Mar on November 28, winning 46-23, then beat Walnut, 52-28, November 30.
On Monday Claremont bested Riverside Poly, 50-27, followed by a close 56-50 victory over Eleanor Roosevelt Tuesday to start the Claremont/Bonita Tournament. The team faced Summit High after press time Thursday. That result will determine who Claremont faces Saturday.
The girls are at Orangewood Academy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14.
Girls water polo (0-2)
The Wolfpack lost two matches on December 1, 14-11 to Rowland and 16-2 to South Pasadena. The girls hosted Chino Wednesday, but results were not made available to the Courier. Los Altos came by after press time Thursday.
Claremont takes on West Covina at Edgewood at 5 p.m. Wednesday, December 13. Alta Loma hosts the Pack at 4 p.m. Monday, December 18.
Boys and girls wrestling
The boys began the season December 2 at Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga. The results were not made available to the Courier.
The boys team is at Gabrielino at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 9. The girls are at Santa Ana at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 9. Both begin Palomares League play by hosting Alta Loma Thursday, December 21, the girls at 5 p.m., the boys about 6.

Boys and girls cross-country
Results from the November 25 CIF-State Championships at Woodward Park: in the Division 5 heat, Webb sophomore Nicole Samson placed 38th overall with a time of 19:48.4. Full results are at athletic.net.
Girls tennis (11-6)
Results from the November 20 California Interscholastic Federation-Southern Section individual and doubles sectionals tournaments at Marina High: Webb sophomore and San Joaquin League singles runner-up Anna Park took down Orange League’s runner-up Jenny Pham of Magnolia, 7-5, 6-3, in the first round before Crestview League runner-up Anika Guniganti of Villa Park sunk Anna, 6-0, 6-1, in the second round. Webb’s doubles team of Saira Bhaget and Jasmine Beseth, the San Joaquin League runners-up, fell to Priscilla Gomez and Lana Quach of Segerstom, the Golden West League champions, in the opening round. Although the Webb duo took the opening set, 6-3, Gomez and Quach proved too much, taking the second set, 6-3, then the match tiebreaker, 10-1.
Boys soccer (2-2-0)
The team lost 6-1 at John Muir on November 30, but bounced back at home Tuesday against Pomona, winning 3-0. The December 2 game with Rowland was scrapped.
The Gauls host Covina at 3:15 p.m. Friday before traveling to Capistrano Valley Christian Tuesday, December 12, for a 2:15 p.m. San Joaquin League matchup. The team heads to Mark Keppel at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14.
Girls soccer (3-0-1)
The Gauls walloped Pomona, 7-0, at home November 28 and beat Covina, 4-2, on December 1. Webb won again at San Dimas on Tuesday, 1-0. Rowland hosted Webb after press time Thursday.
The team hosts Capistrano Valley Christian at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 12 to open San Joaquin League play before heading to Whittier Thursday, December 14 for a 5 p.m. contest.
Boys basketball (2-5)
Webb trounced hosts Education First Academy, 68-28, on November 28, then began the Webb Tournament with another lopsided win, 75-37, over Sherman Indian on November 30. It was all downhill after those two big wins though, including a 73-40 loss to Rowland December 1, and a 58-49 setback against Sierra Vista December 2. The Gauls then fell to Azusa on Tuesday, 49-44.
Palmdale Academy hosts Webb at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The team then returns home Tuesday, December 12 to play Duarte, followed by Rio Hondo Thursday, December 14. Both games begin at 6:30 p.m.
Girls basketball (1-5)
Results from the Calvary Chapel Downey tournament: the team started things off with a 44-37 loss to Artesia on November 27 before falling to St. Joseph, 53-29, the following day. A 60-30 blowout win over Compton Centennial (Bethel Baptist’s substitute) wrapped play on December 1. Webb began the Rick Whyte Invitational Tuesday by losing to Rio Hondo, 56-28. Play continued after press time Thursday against Garey. Full results from the tournament will be reported in the next sports roundup.
The team closes out 2023 with a 4:45 p.m. game Tuesday, December 12 at Pomona High, and a 5:30 p.m. tipoff at Duarte Thursday, December 14.
Girls water polo (2-3)
Don Lugo handed the Gauls a 20-9 home loss on November 28 before Lakeside compounded their sorrows, besting the hosts 23-8 on November 30. Gahr dropped by Tuesday and Webb bounced back with a 19-10 win.
Valle Vista League play begins Tuesday, December 12 with a 4 p.m. home matchup with West Covina, followed by nonleague home action with Westridge Thursday, December 14, at 3:30 p.m.
Boys wrestling (1-1)
The Gauls hosted a November 28 dual meet with Covina and Calvary Chapel Downey and came out even, defeating CCD, 48-30, before falling to Covina, 42-36. The Cossareck Classic was held December 1-2 at Westminster High, but no Webb wrestlers placed. Results are at calgrappler.com/cossarek-classic-results-2023.
The team is at Santa Rosa Academy for the Ranger Roundup tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, December 9, followed by a home dual meet with Ganesha and Nuview Bridge at 5 p.m. Monday, December 11. California School for the Deaf welcomes Webb Thursday, December 14.
