Police Blotter: December 22, 2023

Thursday, December 14
A Claremont Police Department officer on foot patrol at 1:25 a.m. in Larkin Park, 660 N. Mountain Ave., contacted two men in the park past curfew. Police said both men had been warned about trespassing at Larkin the night before. A records check of Marcos Arreola, 51, of West Covina revealed two outstanding warrants. Naeem Taylor, 26, of Claremont allegedly provided a false ID to the officers. Arreola was arrested for a felony and a misdemeanor warrant and trespassing. Taylor was arrested for trespassing and delaying an officer. Both subjects were taken to the Claremont jail where they were booked and later issued citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

 

Saturday, December 16
Police were called to Claremont High School, 1601 N. Indian Hill Blvd., at 9:49 a.m. about a fight in progress. Arriving officers were flagged down by a witness, who pointed out the combatants. Police questioned the pair and learned they were previously married. The alleged victim told police she was pushed and was complaining of pain. Her ex, a 62-year-old male Upland resident, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence and taken to the CPD jail, where he was booked and held for court.

Someone pried open the public mailbox on the north side of the Claremont Post Office building at 140 Harvard Ave. at 1 p.m., then fled. Police don’t know if the suspect stole any mail, and they have no suspect information.

At 10:45 p.m. police were called to Stater Bros. Market, 1055 W. Foothill Blvd., to investigate an attempted robbery. Police say 38-year-old Hector Sanchez Lobato of Pomona entered the store and attempted to steal two bottles of alcohol. When an employee told Lobato to return the beverages he allegedly turned toward the employee, used various racial slurs, spat on the victim, and walked away. Officers located Lobato nearby and he was positively identified by the employee. He was arrested for misdemeanor robbery and a records check showed he was also on probation for a previous robbery. A no-bail probation hold was obtained and Lobato was taken to the Claremont jail where he was held for court.

 

Sunday, December 17
A person attempting to sell an electric bicycle through the Offer Up app met a prospective buyer at Chase Bank, 805 W. Foothill Blvd. at 8:02 p.m. The would-be buyer asked to test ride the bike and gave the victim a set of keys to hold as collateral while he rode the $450 bike. He then rode away on the bicycle. The bike’s owner then searched for his stolen bike and the suspect, but was unsuccessful. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call CPD detectives at (909) 399-5411.
