Local gallery announces exhibition winners
Ahmad Shariff Art Gallery, 107 Harvard Ave., held its 2024 juried art exhibition during January’s Claremont Art Walk. The exhibit, curated by Brittany Kiertzner, was juried by Ryan Zimmerman, president of the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art board of directors.
Pablo Damas, a self-taught artist, took first place with his piece, “Beautiful Decay,” an acrylic painting that “explores the beauty in the imperfect,” a news release read. Kiertzner, a contemporary artist who specializes in abstract paintings, placed second with “You Sleep/ Senta,” which “describes the physical presence of Indigenous women shaping the future,” according to the release. In third was Jackie Leishman’s “The Peace of Wild Things V,” a mixed media work.
Other artists featured in the exhibit included Adeola Davies-Aiyeloja, Ahmad Shariff, Andrew Bentson, Ernest J.T. Martin, Gorman Bentley, Jim Balderrama, John MacLean, John Woodcock, Kamelyta, Leonardo Moleiro, Marinés Adrianza, Nate McMullen, Neifa Cosenza, Paul Batou, Sandy Garcia, Sadaf Asjodi, Sonia Sleeger, and Toti OBrien.
