Friday, February 9
Claremont Police Department officers were involved in serving two search warrants at residences in Rancho Cucamonga and Fontana, following an investigation into residential burglaries in Claremont and multiple other area cities. In the first, Deveon Blaylock, 35, of Fontana was located at a Rancho Cucamonga residence where police said he was in possession of a stolen firearm. Police said Blaylock was free on bond for attempted murder, two vehicle pursuits, and an unrelated possession of firearms case. While being booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, he allegedly was also found to be in possession of narcotics. Blaylock was charged with five felonies: burglary, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, participant in a criminal street gang, and possession of narcotics in a jail facility. The warrant in Fontana yielded eight additional firearms, three of which had been reported stolen. Officers also arrested Deandre Scott, 41, of Fontana for felony possession of a stolen firearm in relation to the second warrant. Police said Scott is currently employed by the city of Pasadena as a gang interventionist. After booking he was released with a citation. At press time, Blaylock was in custody at West Valley.
An officer on patrol at 9 p.m. questioned two men in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. After a records check revealed both had warrants, they were arrested, Fontana resident Tresjoun Roper, 29, for two misdemeanor warrants, and Adelanto resident James Tipton, 23, for one misdemeanor warrant. Both men were taken to the Claremont jail where they were booked and released with citations.
Saturday, February 10
Police were called to La Puerta Sports Park, 2500 N. Indian Hill Blvd., at 9:20 a.m. about an act of vandalism. A witness told arriving officers an unknown suspect smashed the front passenger window of a red minivan. The van’s owner reported $400 worth of property had been stolen. Police do not have a suspect description.
Sunday, February 11
At 8:57 p.m. someone called police to report seeing a man on surveillance cameras who did not belong at an office building in the 600 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard. Police located the 33-year-old unhoused man on the third floor landing of the building and ordered him to sit down. The man allegedly refused the command and began fighting with officers, shoving one and dragging another down a flight of stairs. At the bottom, the man allegedly ripped equipment from the officer’s vest and struck him violently. As the officers were attempting to take him into custody, he allegedly tried to bite them multiple times as they took control of his arms. Additional officers arrived, and the man was handcuffed and detained. Police said they recovered narcotics paraphernalia from close to where they had initially contacted the man, who was treated at the scene by L.A. County Fire for minor abrasions. He was arrested for felony battery on a police officer and misdemeanor possession of narcotics paraphernalia. A records check showed he was also on post-release community supervision for a felony battery on a peace officer charge in San Bernardino County. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was held for court.
On the evening of Super Bowl Sunday two Claremont police officers conducted a DUI saturation patrol financed through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. During the patrol they pulled over five drivers and made one DUI arrest. They also responded to a request for emergency assistance during the violent encounter with the unhoused man at 8:57 p.m.
Monday, February 12
Police were called to the 600 block of W. Bonita Ave. at 12:54 a.m. about a possible domestic dispute. Arriving officers questioned a man who said he had been arguing with his girlfriend and that she had slapped him several times. Police then arrested the 32-year-old Claremont woman on misdemeanor domestic violence charges. She was taken to the CPD jail where she was booked and released with a citation to appear in court.
