Friday, February 23
- “Photographic Memory of the West: The Work of Hubert A. Lowman” opens for the final time at 8 a.m. at The Claremont Colleges Library, 800 N. Dartmouth Ave. The library, and the exhibits, close at 10 p.m. on Fridays. More info is at library.claremont.edu.
- Pomona College’s Benton Museum of Art hosts a free and open to the public 2 p.m. gallery talk at 120 W. Bonita Ave., Claremont. A focused discussion led by museum staff will be followed by a Q&A.
- The great junk hunt takes place at Fairplex expo hall 4, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona, starting at 4 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24. Tickets for today are $20, $10 Sunday. More info is at thegreatjunkhunt.com/purchase-tickets.
- The Claremont High School Choral Department presents “This Is the Greatest Show,” at 7 p.m. at Garrison Theater, 231 E. 10th St., Claremont, featuring music from award-winning songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Tickets, $12, are at chschoir.org.
- Pomona Concert Band presents “Meet the Band,” its annual free and open to the public 7:30 p.m. winter concert, at Palomares Park Community Center, 499 E. Arrow Hwy., Pomona.
- California Baptist University Opera Theater holds an 8 p.m. double feature of “Dido and Aeneas” and “Trial by Jury” at Lewis Family Playhouse, 12505 Cultural Center Dr., Rancho Cucamonga, today and Saturday, February 24. - It’s opening day for Claremont Little League’s spring season. The juniors division gets started at 8 a.m. at Griffith Park, 1800 Woodbend Dr., as do the majors, JV, and farm divisions at College Park, 100 S. College Ave. T-ball action begins at noon at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave. First pitch for the minors is at 1 p.m. at College Park. The intermediate teams get their season started at 2:30 at Griffith Park.
- The Friends of the Claremont Library’s On the Same Page Committee hosts a free and public 10 a.m. panel discussion at Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 Harvard Ave. Elizabeth Moore, Annie Gebhardt and Erin Talvitie will talk about Laurie Frankel’s book “This Is How It Always Is.”
- The Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art and Center for the Arts Building A, 5885 Haven Ave., Rancho Cucamonga, host a free and open to the public mathtivities family day featuring math and art activities for all ages from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Granite Creek Community Church, 1580 N. Claremont Blvd., Claremont, opens as an in-person voting center for the 2024 presidential primary today through March 4. Additional centers will open March 2 at Condit Elementary School, 1750 N. Mountain Ave.; El Roble Intermediate School, 665 N. Mountain Ave.; and Claremont Unified School District offices, 170 W. San Jose Ave. All centers are open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Election Day, Tuesday, March 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Vote-by-mail ballots can be dropped off at Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd., and Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. - Learn about links between math and crochet during hyperbolic crochet, a 12:30 to 2 p.m. free and open to the public crochet event in room 210 of the Center for the Arts, 5885 Haven Ave., Rancho Cucamonga. The workshop is limited to 20 participants and is led by Chaffey College math professors Morgan Rea and Hannah Seidler-Wright, and Cal Poly Pomona math professor Berit Givens.
- A free and open to the public current events discussion group takes place Mondays from 1 to 2 p.m. at Joslyn Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., Claremont.
- Winners of the 34th annual Making Change contest will be awarded a certificate from the City of Claremont and Claremont Unified School District as well as a $100 check during a free and public 6:30 p.m. ceremony at Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd., Claremont.
