Police Blotter: February 23, 2024
Tuesday, February 13
Claremont Police Department officers were called to the 700 block of Lancaster Drive at 5:15 p.m. regarding a car theft. When police arrived the victim explained he had parked his unlocked car in the area and someone had stolen his backpack containing two loaded firearms. Police then identified and questioned two suspects, Colton resident, Robert Torres, and Oscar Gonzalez of Rialto, but the guns were not found. Torres and Gonzalez were taken to the Claremont jail and charged with felony grand theft.
Wednesday, February 14
At 1:24 p.m. an officer contacted a 46-year-old unhoused woman at an office building in the 400 block of W. Arrow Highway. The woman had previously been arrested at the location. She was given a warning at 1:07 a.m. Tuesday at the same location that she would be charged with trespassing if she returned. The officer arrested her on the misdemeanor charge and took her to the CPD jail where she was booked and released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
An officer on patrol at 1:38 p.m. on Foothill Boulevard at Garey Avenue, spotted two men engaged in what appeared to be a drug transaction. The officer contacted the men and a records check showed one, Ontario resident Eric Flores Villalobos, 24, had nine misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested for his warrants and taken to the Claremont jail, where he was booked and later released.
Thursday, February 15
At 1:47 a.m. the same 46-year-old unhoused woman who was arrested at an office building in the 400 block of W. Arrow Highway on Wednesday was arrested again for misdemeanor trespassing at the same location. She was returned to the Claremont jail where she was issued another citation.
A witness called police at 6 p.m. to report someone was driving erratically on Towne Avenue near Arrow Highway in Pomona. The witness followed the car on Arrow into Claremont, where officers pulled over the driver, 31-year-old Aaron Vazquez of Upland. Police say Vazquez appeared to be under the influence and detained him. He then allegedly became uncooperative and combative and attempted to punch an officer. Police were able to subdue Vazquez, but he refused field sobriety tests. He was arrested for DUI based on the officers’ observations and for attempting to hit the officer. A records check revealed he had a suspended license for a previous DUI as well as warrants for DUI, and that the vehicle he was driving was supposed to have an interlock device to prevent an intoxicated person from driving it. He was taken to the Claremont jail and after allegedly refusing to provide a blood sample, a court order was obtained. Vazquez was charged with a host of misdemeanors: DUI, battery on a police officer, driving on a suspended license, the warrants, and failing to have a required vehicle interlock device. He was booked and held for court.
An officer on patrol on Base Line Road pulled over a driver for an equipment violation at 7:57 p.m. A records check of Patricia Garcia, 44, of Rancho Cucamonga, showed she had felony and misdemeanor warrants out of Los Angeles. Her vehicle was parked and locked and Garcia was taken to the Claremont jail on the warrants. She was booked and released with a citation.
At 9:27 p.m. police responded to the intersection of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill Boulevard to investigate a traffic collision involving three vehicles. One man, Ontario resident Roberto Valverde, 30, was found to have a suspended license and two misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested for the warrants and the suspended license and was taken to the Claremont jail, where he was booked and released with a citation.
Tuesday, February 20
Police were called to Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 2:25 a.m. to investigate an alleged armed robbery in which two unknown suspects reportedly entered the victim’s room and robbed him at gunpoint. The alleged thieves took the man’s wallet and car keys but did not take his car. The suspects are described as a Hispanic male and a Hispanic female. An investigation is ongoing.
