Tuesday, March 26
Claremont Police Department officers responded to a 9:47 a.m. service call at Hanoi Kitchen, 400 Auto Center Dr., regarding a suspicious man walking in and out of the restaurant. When police questioned John Dawson, 37 of Pomona, a records check revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant issued by Pomona PD, and a search allegedly turned up methamphetamine. Dawson was arrested for the warrant and for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, and taken to CPD jail where he was booked before being released with citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Wednesday, March 27
CPD officers on patrol pulled over a car at 9:36 p.m. for a vehicle code violation at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Regis Avenue. When police questioned the driver, Rico Love, 40, a records check revealed Mr. Love had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the police station. During the booking process however, police realized the man who identified as Mr. Love was actually 47-year-old Duarte resident Victor Cass. Cass was re-arrested and charged with providing a false name to police, delaying an investigation, and driving on a suspended license, all misdemeanors. He was issued three citations and a court date before being released.
Thursday, March 28
At 2:16 a.m. police said they saw a driver commit a vehicle code violation and pulled over Ontario resident Emily Wiseman, 23, near the intersection of Bonita and Cambridge avenues. Police said Wiseman displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol, and field sobriety tests confirmed those suspicions. Wiseman was arrested and taken to CPD, where she provided a chemical sample, was booked, then held for detoxification before later being released with a citation for misdemeanor DUI.
Claremont Colleges campus safety officers allegedly observed Manuel Banderagomez, 33, from Pomona, use a gardening tool to smash multiple car windows, causing more than $10,000 worth of damage. Campus safety then called CPD, who arrived about 2:14 p.m. and questioned the man at the intersection of Claremont Boulevard and Ninth Street. A records check revealed Banderagomez had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested, then booked at CPD for the warrant as well as for felony vandalism, and later released with citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Friday, March 29
Officers driving on Indian Hill Boulevard at 5:13 p.m. allegedly saw a 23-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man they knew to be unhoused attempt to hide “something shiny” outside Denny’s restaurant, 820 S. Indian Hill Blvd. After questioning them, they searched the man, and the shiny object allegedly turned out to be aluminum foil filled with narcotics. The woman then allegedly admitted to having a methamphetamine pipe. Both were arrested for possession of unlawful paraphernalia, a misdemeanor, and taken to CPD jail for booking. They were released with citations to appear in court.
Saturday, March 30
An 8:52 p.m. service call near the 100 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard regarding a suspicious transient led police to question a 50-year-old unhoused man. A records check revealed he was wanted for attempted murder, stemming from a February 18 incident in which he allegedly hit another man on the head with a hammer near where Cambridge Avenue meets the Metrolink railroad tracks. In the incident, paramedics transported the injured man to a nearby hospital for treatment and the suspect allegedly fled the scene. On March 30 he was arrested, booked, and charged with felony attempted murder. According to Los Angeles County Sheriff inmate records, the man is being held at the men’s central jail in Los Angeles and was back in court Thursday at Pomona Superior Court.
Monday, April 1
An officer responded to an 8:55 a.m. service call at Claremont Lincoln University, 150 W. First St., regarding a 27-year-old unhoused man sleeping on the property. Upon arrival, a records check revealed the man had an outstanding felony warrant issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was arrested, booked, and released with a citation to appear in court for the warrant.
A homeowner along the 1800 block of Wheaton Avenue called police at 5:38 p.m. reporting that his home’s front door handle was broken and that five people were standing inside his house who claimed to have rented the property. The owner asserted the people had no business being there. Arriving police ordered the would-be renters to leave the home, and a records check on one of those involved, Kevin Tapia, 31 of San Dimas, turned up a felony warrant issued by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Tapia was arrested and booked at CPD before being transported to the Riverside Detention Center, where he was held for the warrant. He appeared at the Indio Larson Justice Center Thursday.
