Claremont Colleges 2024 commencement information
The Claremont Colleges commencement weekend for the Class of 2024 takes place Friday, May 10 through Sunday, May 12, 2024. Festivities begin Friday at 3:30 p.m. with the Baccalaureate services of The Claremont Colleges, and culminate with the Commencement ceremony and reception on Sunday at 10 a.m. Pomona College has already begun erecting the stage for their commencement planned for Sunday, May 12 at 10 a.m. at Marston Quad, above.
Claremont McKenna College’s 76th commencement ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Parents Field, 734 Amherst Avenue.
This year’s keynote address will be delivered by author Cheryl Strayed, who wrote the No. 1 New York Times bestseller, Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail chronicling her 1,100-mile hike from California to Washington. After being picked for Oprah Winfrey’s Book Club, the book became international bestseller that inspired women to create and reach for their own goals and aspirations. It was later adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern. More info is available at cmc.edu/news.
Tickets are not required for the event, but seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seating is available for guests who require additional accommodations. Staff members will also be on site to assist with seating.
Parking is available at the CMC Clinic, Biszantz Family Tennis Center and Claremont Boulevard office parking lots, as well as the CMC lot on Sixth Street and Mills Avenue. Additional parking is also available on surrounding streets.
Pets are not allowed at the ceremony but service animals are permitted.

Harvey Mudd College’s 66th commencement begins at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 12 at the Mudd Quadrangle, 170 E. 10th Street.
Math educator and popular YouTuber, Grant Sanderson, will deliver the keynote address. His platform, 3Blue1Brown, focuses on teaching advanced mathematics from a visual perspective, and the process of discovery and inquiry-based learning. More info is at 3blue1brown.com.
The ceremony is a non-ticketed event, and seats will available be on a first-come, first-served basis and will include spaces for wheelchair users.
Parking is accessible in all Harvey Mudd College parking lots and on the south side of Foothill Boulevard.

Pitzer College’s 60th commencement ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Stephen L. Glass Commencement Plaza, by 1050 N. Mills Avenue.
Civil rights activist Jim Obergefell is this year’s commencement keynote speaker. A self-described “accidental activist” from Ohio, Obergefell was the lead plaintiff in the 2015 U.S. Supreme Court case that legalized same-sex marriage across the country. He and his partner John, who were legally married in Maryland, found themselves in the middle of legal controversary in 2013 when they learned Obergefell would not be recognized on John’s death certificate due to Ohio’s same-sex marriage ban. They decided to challenge the ban, and even though John, who had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), did not live to see the final ruling, the case ultimately reached the U.S. Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of marriage equality. Since then, Jim has been involved in various efforts on behalf of civil rights for all.
Tickets are not required for the event and there is no limit on the number of guests allowed. Seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests who require additional assistance can be dropped off at the Sandborn parking lot for support.
Parking is available at the East Mesa, Sandborn, and Holden parking lots. Guests can also park on Claremont Boulevard and Mills Avenue.

Pomona College’s 130th commencement begins at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 12 at Marston Quadrangle, just east of Bridges Auditorium at 333 N. College Way.
This year’s ceremony will feature four distinguished speakers: former chief justice of California Tani Cantil-Sakauye; economist and nonprofit leader Cecilia Conrad; Occidental College President Harry Elam; and medical geneticist Emil Kakkis class of ’82. The speakers will also be awarded honorary degrees from the College. More info is at pomona.edu/news.
No tickets are required, and available seats will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Services such as hearing assistance, interpretation services and on-screen viewing will be available. There are also designated ADA-compliant seating areas for guests attending the ceremony. To reserve seating in one of these areas, complete the Commencement Guest/Disability Services Request form online at pomona.edu/commencement.

Scripps College’s 94th commencement takes place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Elm Tree Lawn, 385 E. Ninth Street.
There is no limit to the number of guests allowed, but registration is required to attend the ceremony. To register, visit scrippscollege.edu/commencement.
Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserved seats are available to those who have contacted Scripps’ public events office for guests who require accommodations.

Claremont Graduate University’s 97th commencement begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 11 at Mudd Quadrangle, 170 E. 10th Street.
This year’s keynote speaker and honorary degree recipient is Jennifer Joy Freyd, Professor Emerit of Psychology at the University of Oregon and an affiliate professor at the University of Washington. The alumni president speaker is Steven Kim, founder of Talentscope, and the student speaker is Jennifer P. Villalobos, an organizational psychologist and researcher with over 20 years of experience. Tickets are not required for the ceremony, but graduates are required to disclose the number of guests attending, so that all guests can be accommodated.
Graduates and their attending guests can be dropped off at the corner of College Avenue and 10th Street. Parking is available along Dartmouth and Columbia as well as 10th and 11th streets. A digital campus map is available online at cgu.edu/map.

Keck Graduate Institute will celebrate graduating students from the Henry E. Riggs School of Applied Life Sciences and the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Gardiner W. Spring Auditorium, 1245 N. Euclid Ave., Ontario.
Karen Tumulty, an associate editor and political columnist for The Post, is this year’s keynote speaker. More information is available at kgi.edu.
The ceremony is a ticketed event. Graduates must send the registration link directly to those attending, and prior to entry guests will be required to present a QR-coded ticket received via email.
