The Claremont Police Department, part of the Los Angeles County Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, received a National Center for Missing and Exploited Children tip recently regarding a 27-year-old Claremont man who was allegedly downloading child pornography. Police obtained a search warrant for all of his digital devices, and a subsequent investigation found the man to allegedly be in possession of child sexual assault material.

The man arrived at CPD, 570 W. Bonita Ave., about 8 a.m. April 16 and was arrested for felony possession of child porn, booked and released on his own recognizance, which, similar to a no-cost bail requires the subject to sign a written promise to appear in court. He subsequently appeared at Pomona Superior Court on April 18.

While the 27-year-old Claremont man was being arrested for his cybercrime, police said that the individual who accompanied him to the station, 44-year-old Sergio Ruiz, of Pomona, was allegedly under the influence of a controlled substance. Ruiz was arrested at about 9:28 a.m. for the misdemeanor, held for detoxification, and was booked and released with a citation.

Wednesday, April 17

Police responded to a 9:40 a.m. call for service regarding an unhoused Claremont man, 63, who was spotted in a field in the northeast corner along Base Line Road and Padua Avenue on property owned by the Pomona Valley Protective Association. Police arrived and arrested the man for misdemeanor trespassing and took him to CPD for booking, before he was released with a citation to appear in court.

Thursday, April 18

Police pulled a car over near the intersection of Dartmouth Avenue and Foothill Boulevard at 12:56 a.m. after allegedly seeing the motorist commit a moving violation. During the traffic stop, police alleged that Rancho Cucamonga resident Jose Ayon, 57, showed signs of alcohol intoxication, and conducted subsequent field sobriety tests. Ayon was determined to be driving under the influence and arrested for the misdemeanor. He was taken to CPD for booking as well as to provide a chemical sample and to be held for detox. Ayon was released with a citation to appear in court.

Police patrolling College Park, 100 S. College Ave., found Claremont resident Timothy Munoz, 38, lying down at the park at 8:18 a.m. After recognizing him from previous encounters, the officer questioned Munoz, and a records check revealed he had a misdemeanor Claremont warrant as well as a court issued restraining order by a woman with whom he was allegedly at the park. Munoz was subsequently arrested for the misdemeanor warrant and for misdemeanor violating a court order. He was taken to CPD for booking and held for court. Munoz, who is being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles, is due to appear at Pomona Superior Court on April 29.

Saturday, April 20

Police received a call for service at 8:09 a.m. regarding a man at Larkin Park, 660 N. Mountain Ave., allegedly carrying a knife and threatening to stab people. When police arrived, they detained Viet Vo of Pomona, 46, and a subsequent search allegedly yielded two large knives as well as methamphetamine and a pipe. After speaking with victims, police confirmed Vo was the man making the threats and arrested him for making criminal threats, a felony, as well as the two misdemeanors, possession of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia. He was taken to CPD, booked and held for court. At Pomona Superior Court on April 23, he was released on his own recognizance.

At 10:35 p.m., police responded to the 700 block of Mansfield Drive regarding a disturbance at a residence between a 25-year-old Claremont man and a female victim. Police said children witnessed the altercation between the two parties and that the female victim showed signs of injury. The man was arrested for felony domestic violence and misdemeanor child endangerment and taken to Claremont jail where he was booked and held for court. Court records show that he was released on bond the following day and appeared at Pomona Superior Court on April 23.

Sunday, April 21

Police on patrol near the Claremont Lodge, 736 S. Indian Hill Blvd., recognized Dejae Jones, 26 of Los Angeles, exiting the motel and stopped to question her at 4:43 p.m. A records checked turned up an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Los Angeles County, and Jones was arrested, taken to CPD for booking and released with a citation to appear in court.

Monday, April 22

At 5:33 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of east Arrow Highway after someone called to report a female was pepper sprayed and that the alleged perpetrator fled on foot. While being treated by paramedics, the female victim described the suspect and showed police video evidence of the events. After matching the description to someone nearby, police detained and questioned a 43-year-old unhoused Pomona man. While searching him, officers allegedly found a dagger and a bottle of pepper spray, while a records check revealed he had two warrants from Los Angeles County and three warrants from San Bernardino County.

Afterward, the female victim was taken to the scene and confirmed that he was the man who pepper sprayed her. He was arrested for unlawful possession of pepper spray, a misdemeanor, as well as the five outstanding warrants, booked at Claremont jail and later transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles pending court. He was due back at Pomona Superior Court on April 25.

After being cited for trespassing in recent days, a 46-year-old unhoused woman was allegedly once again found at Lombardo Law Firm, 408 W. Foothill Blvd. CPD officers responded to an 8:59 p.m. call for service regarding the woman and arrested her for misdemeanor trespassing. She was taken to CPD for booking before being released with a citation to appear in Pomona Superior Court.
