Fourth of July honorees

Claremont’s Independence Day Committee has announced its honoree selections for this year’s Fourth of July celebration: the grand marshal is Brett O’Connor; honored citizens are Kevin Ward and James Martin; and the honored community group is the Kiwanis Club of Claremont. Honorees will be presented with certificates at the flag raising ceremony and will also appear in the parade.

Chaparral sixth grader to sing national anthem

Aliya Jaafri, a sixth grade student at Chaparral Elementary School, is the winner of the city’s 2024 Fourth of July celebration national anthem contest. Aliya will receive fireworks tickets, a special place in the parade, and will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the fireworks show and flag raising ceremony.

City seeking parade entrants

Claremont’s Independence Day Committee invites businesses, nonprofits, families, and individuals to be a part of the Fourth of July celebration by participating with a parade entry.

The one mile parade begins at 10 a.m. at Memorial Park, travels south on Indian Hill Boulevard, west on Harrison Avenue and ends at Larkin Park. Parade applications, at www.claremont4th.org, or at the Alexander Hughes Community Center, 1700 Danbury Rd., are due by June 3.

Freedom 5000 Run/Walk registration is open

Registration is now open for the Claremont Village Freedom 5000, a June 29 family-friendly run/walk through the tree-lined streets of Claremont. The event features a 1K Kids Fun Run, a 5K Run, and a 5K Walk/Competitive Race Walk. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Claremont High School Cross Country Boosters.

The 1K Kids Fun Run for ages 12 and under kicks off at 7:30 a.m. Everyone in the 1K Kids Fun Run receives a medal. The 5K Run/Walk begins at 8. Gold, silver, and bronze medals are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each age division. A special award is given to the top male and top female overall finishers.

Register at ci.claremont.ca.us/Freedom-5000 by 11:59 p.m. June 27 for $20 1K and $40 5K early registration prices. Race shirt availability is not guaranteed for late registrations.

Fourth booth information

The 2024 Independence Day Committee invites Claremont residents and non-profit organizations to be a part of the 4th of July Celebration by participating in the festival with a booth.

Booths are available to Claremont non-profit organizations and are an excellent way to raise awareness and/or funds for your organization.  The festival is open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park. Booth fees range from $25 to $100 depending on whether it is an information, game, or selling booth. The booth application deadline is Wednesday, May 15, 2024.
