Monday, April 29

At 9:47 a.m., Claremont Police Department officers responded to the Metrolink parking lot in the 200 block of W. First Street regarding an encampment. Upon arrival, officers questioned Manuel Gonzales, 41, of Fontana, and Pomona resident Sierra Perry, 38. A records check of Gonzales revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernadino County, and a search allegedly turned up narcotics and a methamphetamine pipe. While officers spoke with Perry, a meth pipe allegedly fell out of her pant pocket. The duo was subsequently arrested, Gonzales for the warrant and for misdemeanors possession of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and Perry for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. They were taken to CPD jail for booking and later released with citations to appear in court.

Tuesday, April 30

Ontario PD notified Claremont police that the agency was tracking a stolen vehicle passing through the city and provided a description. Claremont officers located the car near the intersection of Arrow Highway and Indian Hill Boulevard at 7:10 p.m. and initiated a traffic stop at the McDonald’s/Chevron, 860 S. Indian Hill Blvd., shortly after. The driver, 27-year-old Marvin Barber of Las Vegas, was arrested for felony grand theft auto, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. Barber was taken to CPD jail for booking before being released with citations to appear in court.

Police on patrol at 7:39 p.m. saw a trio riding motorized mini-bikes heading north on Indian Hill Boulevard and noticed none of the bikes had license plates, an equipment violation. A pursuit began. Two of the riders took off but police kept up with the third, 18-year-old Claremont resident Tristen Franklin, who allegedly tried to lose them by driving on the wrong side of the road. Officers eventually pulled Franklin over near an apartment complex in the 900 block of W. Arrow Highway and arrested him for felony evading a police officer while driving in the opposite direction of traffic and misdemeanor driving without a license. He was taken to CPD, booked, and held for bail before being released the following day. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court on May 2.

Wednesday, May 1

Police got a call at 7:30 a.m. regarding a homeless encampment near the back end of Claremont Place, 120 W. San Jose Ave. When police arrived, they questioned a 33-year-old unhoused man who initially gave them a false name. The person whose name he gave police had a warrant out for his arrest. During a subsequent search police found the man’s identification and another records check with the proper info revealed he had two misdemeanor warrants out of San Bernardino County. On top of the warrants, the man was arrested for misdemeanor giving false ID to a peace officer and taken to CPD jail where he was booked and given citations to appear in court.

Thursday, May 2

Claremont police conducted an 11:48 p.m. welfare check on a 33-year-old unhoused person, the same one from Claremont Place encampment the day prior, who police said was yelling outside Super King Market, 436 Auto Center Dr. During a records check he allegedly displayed signs of being under the influence. He was arrested for misdemeanor public intoxication, taken to CPD to be held for detoxification, and was later released without charges.

Friday, May 3

Police struck up a 1:43 a.m. conversation with Jose Guzman, 43, of Victorville, at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. They suspected Guzman was under the influence. He then allegedly admitted to being in possession of fentanyl, which police later found during a search. The man was arrested for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, taken to CPD, booked and later released with a citation.

CPD responded to College Park, 100 S. College Ave., at 3:50 p.m. regarding a man and woman who appeared to be using narcotics in the park. Arriving officers ran a records check on the 31-year-old unhoused man, which revealed was on probation. A subsequent search allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe. A records check of the woman turned up nothing. Police arrested the man for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia, booked him at CPD, and released him with a citation.

Saturday, May 4

Police near Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue received a call about a speeding car. After locating it, they pulled over 34-year-old Asten Martin at 3:04 p.m. A records check revealed an outstanding felony warrant from San Bernardino County. Martin was arrested for the warrant and taken to CPD for booking. She was then released with a citation due to a medical issue.

Sunday, May 5

Police responded to the intersection of Monte Vista Avenue and Shenandoah Drive at 2:12 a.m. regarding a solo vehicle traffic collision. Officers located Claremont resident Joseph Laybourn, 25, about a mile away from the scene near Chaparral Elementary School, 451 Chaparral Dr. Laybourn allegedly admitted to being the driver of the car. Police said he displayed symptoms of intoxication and conducted field sobriety tests. Laybourn was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence and taken to CPD jail for detox and booking. He was later released on a citation to appear in court.

Tuesday, May 7

Police questioned 28-year-old Hemet resident Brandon Johnson at 12:34 a.m. in the 900 block of W. Foothill Boulevard. Johnson allegedly told officers he didn’t have anything illegal in his possession. Police said he then gave them permission to search his backpack, which allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe. Johnson was arrested for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia, booked at CPD jail, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
