Obituary: Steven Lester Hurt

Grandfather, family man, Packers fan

Steven Lester Hurt, a longtime resident of Claremont, died peacefully at his home on April 27 at the age of 71, with his wife by his side.

Born to Lester C Hurt and Kathleen (Stanley) Hurt and brother to Mark Hurt in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on December 17, 1954, Steven grew up to become a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

“Steven’s devotion to his family was unwavering,” his family shared. He shared more than five decades of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Katherine (Lowe) Hurt, whom he married on May 18, 1974. Together, they raised five children: Rebecca Schaal (Hurt), Daniel Hurt, Jason Hurt, Nathan Hurt, and Natasha Hurt. His love extended to his four grandchildren: Aydin Hurt, Josiah Hurt, Steven Hurt, and Catherine Hurt.

“As a graduate of Glendora High School in 1972, Steven embarked on a successful career as the owner of Steven Hurt Drywall, Inc., a commercial door and drywall company. For over three decades, he dedicated himself to his craft, leaving an indelible mark on his profession and community,” his family said. “Beyond his professional endeavors, Steven found joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid fisherman, he found joy in nature, often indulging in camping and motorsports adventures with his family. His culinary skills were legendary, especially his barbecue prowess, which earned him an award at the LA County Fair on two occasions.

“A true sports enthusiast, Steven’s heart belonged to the Green Bay Packers, and he cheered passionately for his team throughout the years. However, his greatest passion was reserved for his family, whom he cherished above all else.

“Steven Hurt will be remembered not only for his strong work ethic but also for his kindness, generosity, and the love he showered upon his family.

“Though Steven’s physical presence may no longer grace this earth, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. As we bid farewell to a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, we find solace in the memories we shared and the love that will endure for eternity. Rest in peace, Steven Lester Hurt.”
