Police Blotter: May 17, 2024

Tuesday, May 7

Claremont Police Department officers were called to the 700 block of Baylor Avenue at 9:11 p.m. regarding a person causing a disturbance. Police spoke with the reporting party and ran a records check of 48-year-old Joshua McClellan of Claremont, which revealed two misdemeanor warrants, one from Los Angeles County and the other from Claremont PD. McClellan was arrested on the warrants and taken to CPD, where he was booked and released with two citations.

Police responded to a 9:46 p.m. call near the intersection of Foothill and Indian Hill boulevards regarding a passenger who refused to leave a Foothill Transit bus. A records check of Los Angeles resident Manolo Borruel, 46, revealed he had two misdemeanor warrants out of Los Angeles County, and a subsequent search allegedly turned up narcotics. He was arrested, booked at CPD, and later released with three citations, two for the warrants and one for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

Wednesday, May 8

Police questioned a 33-year-old unhoused man along a pathway between two homes in a residential neighborhood in the area of Belhaven Place and College Avenue at 11:22 p.m. A records check showed he had two misdemeanor warrants from Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. The man was arrested for the warrants and taken to CPD jail where he was booked and issued citations to appear in court.

 

Thursday, May 9

Claremont police pulled over a motorist for an alleged moving violation near the Indian Hill Boulevard and Oak Park Drive intersection about 2:04 a.m. During the stop, police allege the driver, Randy Torrez, 24, of La Verne, displayed signs of intoxication. They then conducted field sobriety tests, and Torrez was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and booked at CPD, where he provided a chemical sample before being held for detoxification. He was later released with a citation.

 

Friday, May 10

An alleged moving violation was the reason police pulled over a car near Norms Restaurant, 807 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 2:58 a.m. They questioned 40-year-old Austin Buscher, from Ontario, who police allege displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol, so they conducted field sobriety tests. The man was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor DUI and booked at CPD, where he provided a chemical sample, held for detox, and later released with a citation.

Saturday, May 11

CPD pulled over Montclair resident Chris Sosamayen, 27, near 10th Street and Indian Hill Boulevard at 1:14 a.m. for an alleged moving violation. Police say Sosamayen displayed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. They conducted sobriety tests and arrested him for misdemeanor DUI before transporting him to CPD, where he was booked and provided a chemical sample. He was then held for detox before being released with a citation.

At 11:29 p.m., police said they saw two men with an open container of alcohol at the Shell gas station, 747 S. Indian Hill Blvd., and questioned them. A records check of Brian Tran, 23, from Moreno Valley, revealed a misdemeanor warrant from San Bernardino County, while a search of the 33-year-old unhoused man he was with allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe. Both men were arrested, Tran for the warrant and the unhoused man for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. They were taken to CPD for booking then released with citations to appear in court.

Sunday, May 12

Police responded to a 1:55 a.m. call from Walter’s Restaurant, 310 N. Yale Ave., regarding a suspected drunk person driving away from the restaurant. Officers located the suspect’s car and allege the driver, 40-year-old San Dimas resident Douglas Emm, committed a vehicle code violation. They pulled him over and questioned him. Suspecting he was intoxicated, they conducted field sobriety tests. Emm was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor DUI and taken to CPD jail, where he was booked and provided a chemical sample. He was then held for detox and later released with a citation to appear in court.

 

Monday, May 13

Claremont police responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Mills Avenue at 10:31 p.m. After running a records check of the license plates of the vehicles involved, the car driven by Jacob Alfaro, 28, of Rancho Cucamonga, came back as stolen. After he was detained police say he displayed symptoms of being under the influence. They conducted field sobriety tests and Alfaro was arrested for felony grand theft auto, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, and misdemeanor DUI. He was transported to CPD jail, booked, submitted a chemical sample, then held for detox before being released with three citations.

Tuesday, May 14

Police searched the 200 block of Indian Hill Boulevard after getting a call about a man and woman heard arguing in the area at 2:58 a.m. After locating the couple, a records check of 37-year-old Lorenza Garcia, from San Bernardino, revealed a felony warrant out of Riverside County and a misdemeanor warrant from San Bernardino County. She was arrested, booked at CPD, then released with citations.
