What’s happening at the LA County Fair

The Los Angeles County Fair is back at the Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona, every Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in May. Here are some events to look out for:

 

Food drive Thursdays

Fairgoers who bring in five cans of food every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. receive free entry.

 

Fair kids program
The Fair partners with its learning center and area educators to provide Southern California schoolchildren an opportunity for hands-on experiences through its Fair kids program. Students will have access to the farm and barn areas to learn about agriculture, animals, healthy eating and more on Friday, May 17, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Performing arts showcase
On Friday, May 17, in buildings 5 and 8, listen to music from junior and high school bands across the Southland from 1 to 6 p.m.

Generosity on the rocks: a nonprofit tasting

Adults over 21 can sample whiskeys from the United States, Canada and Scotland, on Saturday, May 18, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Top of the Park.

Equestrian education
Take roping lessons, learn how equine therapy benefits children and adults with disabilities, and see horse riding performances as Connecting Compton brings its multicultural equestrian experience to the Fair. Special horse riding performances are set for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26. Lessons and information are available throughout the fairgrounds.

 

Tamayo exhibit
In partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Fair presents “Rufino Tamayo: Innovation and Experimentation,” an exhibit celebrating the work of Rufino Tamayo, one of Mexico’s most revered artists. The exhibit features 20 original Tamayo works and five examples of Mesoamerican sculpture, which were a source of inspiration for the artist. The exhibit is on display through May 27 at the Millard Sheets Art Center.

NextFestLA Indie Music Festival

Enjoy indie music throughout the Fair daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show

Enjoy a mix of log rolling, axe chopping and chainsaw carving thrills with conservation education at the Lumberjack Stage daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Budweiser Clydesdales

The Budweiser Clydesdales perform and appear throughout the day from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Fairplex Garden Railroad 100th anniversary

Take part in the attraction’s 100th anniversary daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Lionlike mind state

Listen to more than 100 authors and artists during the Pomona Valley Poetry Fest at The Glade and Community Stage daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Molcajete Dominguero

See the daily deals at the outdoor Latinx flea market along Rose Street near the lagoon from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Culture of the ‘low and slow

Muscle cars, antique cars, hot rods, lowriders, and more are on display next to the National Hot Rod Association Museum daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Carter’s Foundation stuffed animal donation

Share a stuffed animal won at the carnival with children undergoing cancer treatment by donating it to Carter’s Foundation, near the yellow gate guest relations, open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Portal bot

Receive a chance to control a real robot as part of the Discovering Science and World of Robots Exhibit at expo hall 10 daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
