Pomona-Pitzer baseball team heads to Division III World Series
The Pomona-Pitzer baseball team has made program history by punching its first ever ticket to the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division III World Series tournament.
The fourth seeded Sagehens play Misericordia University at 7 a.m. PST Friday, May 31 at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio. A victory there would set them up to play the winner of the Endicott-Lynhburg game on Saturday, June 1. A loss would send them into the elimination bracket.

The Sagehens ended league play with a May 4 doubleheader sweep over Whittier, 13-1, 7-6, which secured their second place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
As the second seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, the team beat third seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 13-10, in the first round on May 9, then walloped number one seed University of La Verne, 15-0, in the semifinals on May 10. The Sagehens then took on CMS again in the May 11 championship game, winning 11-6 to claim the program’s first SCIAC Postseason Tournament title.
In the best-of-five NCAA Regional Series, Pomona-Pitzer lost game one to Willamette University on May 17, 13-8. The team then went on a three-game win streak to claim the series, sweeping a May 18 doubleheader, 11-5, 10-7, then trouncing its finals opponent, 24-10, on May 19.
The tournament win advanced the Sagehens to the NCAA Super Regional against East Texas Baptist University. Play began May 24 in Texas with a narrow 6-4 win before the Sagehens claimed the best-of-three series with an 8-7 victory on May 25. The series win gave them fourth seed access to the NCAA DIII World Series tourney.
