Tuesday, June 11
Claremont police made their way to the railroad tracks along Cambridge Avenue about 3 p.m. regarding reports of a homeless encampment. Arriving officers told a 39-year-old unhoused man there to move along. When he refused, they arrested him for misdemeanor trespassing. He was subsequently booked at CPD then released with a citation to appear in Pomona Superior Court.
Following an investigation that had been ongoing since 2019 regarding online criminal threats and threatening phone calls to city and court officials, Claremont police arrested 51-year-old Santa Monica resident Bryan Gobin at 4:25 p.m. after he came into CPD, 570 W. Bonita Ave., to conduct unrelated business. Police recognized Gobin from previous incidents, and he was arrested for making criminal threats, a felony, and the misdemeanor charge of making annoying phone calls. He was booked and held for court, then later transferred to Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, where he is being held in lieu of $150,000 bail. He is due in court June 25 at Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. In May 2019, Gobin barricaded himself in a home on the 800 block of Hood Drive after police responded to a call that alleging he had made criminal threats and annoying phone calls. He was arrested after an hourslong standoff and later pleaded no contest to felony stalking. The criminal threats charge in that case was dropped pursuant to the stalking plea.
Police responded to the 400 block of Cedar Crest Avenue about 10 p.m. regarding a domestic violence report. They determined a 48-year-old Los Angeles woman was the aggressor, and she was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence. She was booked at CPD and released the following day after posting $20,000 bail. She was arraigned June 13 in Pomona Superior Court.
Police responded to an 11:18 p.m. call from a resident along the 300 block of Bennett Place claiming someone had broken a window at their home. Police matched the suspect description to a 19-year-old Claremont woman who was located nearby and arrested her for misdemeanor violation of a court order. She was booked, held for court, then released June 13 on her own recognizance.
Thursday, June 13
Claremont, Glendora, and Upland police departments and the LA County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation teamed up for an afternoon undercover prostitution detail near Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 Freeway. Three undercover officers posed as sex workers and solicited johns. Antioch resident Raheem Tiyon Blackmon, 31, was arrested after allegedly attempting to “pimp and pander” an undercover officer, both felonies. He was later transported to a local hospital for medical reasons. His case will be presented to the district attorney’s office for filing consideration. Arrested for misdemeanor soliciting a prostitute for sexual acts was Bloomington resident Isaias Castroesparza, 33, who is a registered sex offender stemming from a previous sexual battery conviction. Also arrested were Pomona residents Alexander Guerra, 33, Stevey Macias Yanez, 47, Jose Anaya, 30, and Jason Orellana, 25; Ontario residents Sergio Andrade, 44, and Wilmer Hernandeznino, 32; Malik Edwards, 29, of Claremont; 35-year-old Santos Villatamoreno, of Highland; and Brian Cannon, a 46-year-old Hesperia resident. The 10 suspects were booked and later released with citations to appear in Pomona Superior Court
During the prostitution detail, a 28-year-old unhoused man began talking to the decoy officers at 5 p.m. A records check revealed a felony no bail warrant from Pomona PD. He was arrested for the warrant and taken to CPD. While at the jail, it was discovered he allegedly had narcotics on him, which resulted in an additional felony charge of bringing a controlled substance into a jail. He was booked and later taken to the Pomona Police Department, where he was held on the warrant. He was released June 14.
Friday, June 14
Police responded to a 9:40 a.m. call about someone trespassing at Pomona College’s Harwood Court dormitory, 170 E. Bonita Ave. Arriving officers questioned a 26-year-old unhoused man, and a records check turned up a felony no bail parole warrant and a misdemeanor warrant. The man was arrested and booked at CPD before being transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, where he is being held ahead of his June 24 court date at Victorville Superior Court and a June 25 post release community supervision hearing.
Police received a 9:06 p.m. call regarding a motorist inhaling something from a balloon. An officer then allegedly spotted 22-year-old Joel Harrison of Pomona in the act near College Avenue and the 10 Freeway, and pulled him over. Police said Harrison was inhaling nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas. He was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor possession of nitrous oxide, taken to CPD for booking, and released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Monday, June 17
Police responded to Kazama Sushi, 101 N. Indian Hill Blvd., at 7:23 p.m. regarding a patron, 28-year-old Colton resident Joshua Baca, who was allegedly refusing to pay his bill. While questioning him, police suspected he’d had too much to drink and arrested Baca for misdemeanor drunk in public. During a subsequent search, they allegedly found cocaine, and added misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance to his charges. Baca was then booked at CPD, held for detoxification, then released with a citation. Police said the once allegedly unruly patron later returned to Kazama Sushi and paid his bill.
