Camp IVRT starts next week

Kids ages 7 to 13 can learn the basics of theater acting, singing and movement at Inland Valley Repertory Theatre’s week-long summer camps at Claremont Community School of Music, 951 W. Foothill Blvd. Classes, $285 to $625, meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting June 24.

The first week of camp, “Behind the Scenes,” runs from June 24 to June 28 and covers costumes, scenery, makeup, and props.

The second week, “Sidekicks,” runs July 8 to July 12 and will teach students how to create and be effective in supporting roles.

The third week, “Villains,” July 15 to July 19, will explore how antagonists help tell stories.

The final session is a two-week performance camp from July 22 to August 2 that will build on the lessons students learned in previous weeks. Campers will work with a local playwright to craft their own original musical plays and use their skills to audition for and rehearse their plays ahead of a final performance. Students who wish to enroll in the performance camp will need to attend at least one of the three one-week sessions.

Improvisational games and exercises are at the core of the camp.
