Wilderness Park closed, Claremont Cool Zone information
The hot weather has closed the Claremont Wilderness Park, above, until further notice, leaving unhealthful air quality (high ozone levels) from heat and fires to the west, especially in the afternoon hours. This week the National Weather Service recommends to minimize outdoor activities and stay indoors as much as possible. High temperatures will be near 100 Tuesday through Friday, with slight cooling over the weekend. For more information, go to: https://www.weather.gov/lox/.
When temperatures reach triple digits, extra precautions to stay cool and hydrated are critical. To beat the intense heat, the City of Claremont has several cooling centers open to the public. Included are the Joslyn Center, Alexander Hughes and Blaisdell Community Centers and the Claremont Library. In cases of extreme heat, 100 degrees or more for 3 consecutive days, the Cool Zone facility hours may be extended.
