Designer short-listed for Pomona-Montclair A Line
The Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority Board voted 4-0 last week to approve short-listing Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. as the designers for the 3.2-mile extension of the Metro A Line from Pomona to Montclair.
“This follows the Kiewit team’s submittal of their statement of qualifications last month as part of the Construction Authority’s two-step procurement process that was reviewed by several evaluation committees who deemed the team qualified on all evaluation categories,” read an email from Habib Balian, chief executive officer of the Construction Authority. “Thursday’s board action now moves the Kiewit team to the proposal phase of the procurement, which will happen this Fall. The Construction Authority anticipates receiving their proposal in early 2025 for review and evaluation.”
The vote follows news last week of the California State Transportation Agency’s allocation of Senate Bill 125 funding for various public transit projects. About $750 million of the $2 billion to be allocated this year will go to Metro for the A Line extension project from Pomona to Montclair. Active light-rail train testing between the Glendora to Pomona segment began July 9.
“While there is still a lot of work ahead to prepare the Pomona to Montclair project for an anticipated contract award and for the funding to be available for the Construction Authority’s use, [last] week’s news and board action were certainly momentous. This as the agency prepares to turn the Glendora to Pomona project over to Metro in less than six months from now,” Balian’s email read.
