Police Blotter: July 19, 2024

Tuesday, July 9

Claremont Police Department officers pulled over Pomona resident Andrew Franks, 30, near the area of Arrow Highway and Bucknell Avenue at 2:06 a.m. for a moving violation. Police said he displayed symptoms of alcohol impairment and conducted field sobriety tests. Franks was arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence and taken to CPD to be booked and to provide a chemical sample. After detox, he was released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

 

Wednesday, July 10

Police were dispatched to the area of Base Line Road and Mountain Avenue after getting a 10:45 a.m. call about a man walking in the street. A records check of the 40-year-old unhoused man revealed he had a felony no-bail warrant out of Riverside County. After being arrested and booked at CPD, police transported him to Riverside to be held for court. After a stay at the Robert Presley Detention Center and a court appearance, he was released on Tuesday.

 

Thursday, July 11

At 7:39 p.m., CPD responded to a call about a suspicious person at the Claremont Packing House parking structure in the 400 block of west First Street. Arriving officers questioned Pomonan Edwin Mendez, 25. A records check revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant, so he was police arrested and taken to CPD for booking. He was later released with a citation.

Claremont officers responded to Denny’s, 820 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 10:24 p.m. after two calls of someone causing a disturbance. Arriving officers failed to locate a suspect. During a later attempt they found Delbert Jackson, a 31-year-old Pomona man. Jackson allegedly told a female employee he was going to beat her up, which prompted police to arrest him for felony criminal threats. A search then allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe, and police added misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia to his charges, then a records check revealed a misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County. Jackson was taken to CPD for booking and held for court. He was released July 12 and appeared at Pomona Superior Court July 15.

 

Friday, July 12

The tracking device on CPD’s “bait bike,” a poorly secured bicycle, alerted police at 5:50 a.m. it was moving from its location in the 100 block of Bucknell Avenue. Police caught up with it and allege 42-year-old Ontario resident Oscar Moran was riding it, and stopped him for questioning. Moran was arrested for felony grand theft and booked at CPD before being released with a citation to appear in court.

Police received a call at 10:57 a.m. about a suspicious car in the 100 block of Ball Drive. They matched the car’s description to one occupied by Los Angeles residents Wiliam Farias Rivera, 38, and Katherine Martinez, 29, and stopped it for alleged equipment violations. Police ran a records check which revealed both Farias Rivera and Martinez had two misdemeanor warrants each. During a search police allegedly found meth on Martinez and a meth pipe on Farias Rivera. Martinez was charged with possession of a controlled substance and Farias Rivera with possession of unlawful paraphernalia, both misdemeanors. They were taken to CPD for booking and later released with citations.

 

Saturday, July 13

Officers questioned Covina resident Anthony Coleman, 42, and Pomonan Ryan Roberts, 46, outside of Western Dental and Orthodontics, 740 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 12:28 a.m. A records check revealed four misdemeanor warrants for Coleman and nine misdemeanor warrants for Roberts. Police arrested the duo and booked them at CPD before releasing them with citations.

CPD officers questioned a 50-year-old unhoused woman near Arrow Highway and College Avenue at 4:22 p.m. A records check turned up a felony no bail warrant out of Los Angeles County and a misdemeanor Orange County warrant. She was arrested and booked at CPD then transported to Intake Release Center in Santa Ana in the evening. She was due in court on Wednesday at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana and is still being held at IRC pending her July 23 court appearance.

 

Monday, July 15

Police conducted a 1:47 a.m. welfare check on a 45-year-old unhoused man behind Oak Park Community Church of God, 616 S. Sycamore Ave. A records check revealed misdemeanor warrants from Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties. He was arrested and booked at Claremont jail before being released with citations.
