U.S. Representative Judy Chu honored Claremont Chamber of Commerce CEO and Ophelia’s Jump CEO Randy Lopez with the Building Bridges Award at her annual Congressional Leadership of the Year Awards ceremony on July 20.

“Lopez has devoted his career to weaving together community knowledge, small business development, advocacy, and healing,” read a press release from Chu’s office. “His leadership has transformed the Chamber into a hub for Claremont, supporting local businesses and organizing major events like Village Venture. Randy and his wife Beatrice also founded Ophelia’s Jump, a non-profit theater company that champions diversity and inclusion. Overcoming personal battles with cancer, Randy has become a nationwide spokesperson for colon cancer awareness and continues to support those battling the disease. His dedication to bridging communities and fostering growth makes him a true pillar of strength and connection in Claremont.”

The awardees were selected from nominations submitted by members of their community. “The selected groups and individuals received this honor because of the commendable work they have accomplished in their field, as well as their dedication to communities in the San Gabriel Valley,” read the release.

“To be nominated for this distinction is a true testament to the tremendous impact each of these leaders have had on our friends, neighbors and fellow citizens,” Chu said. “I want to congratulate all our honorees once again for the incredible work they have accomplished throughout their lives, and over the course of your careers you have helped strengthen our families, support our youth, care for our seniors, and uplift our communities during difficult times. Each of them are heroes that carry us through difficult times and easy times alike.”
