A DoubleTree by Hilton employee called Claremont Police Department officers to the hotel at 555 W. Foothill Blvd. at 11:45 a.m. to report a disturbance in a room. Arriving officers were told the people who had occupied the room in question had left, and they were given a description of their car. Police later matched it to one being driven by Pomona resident Hector Espinoza, 35. During a traffic stop, a records check of Espinoza revealed a felony warrant out of Pomona and that he had a suspended license, leading to his arrest for the warrant and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license. Before impounding the car, police searched it and allegedly found illegal drugs, plastic bags and a methamphetamine pipe, and charged Espinoza with felony possession of narcotics for sale and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor. A search of his passenger, Kari Westling, 43, of Chino allegedly turned up a meth pipe. She was arrested for misdemeanor possession of unlawful paraphernalia. Both were taken to CPD jail to be booked. Westling was released with a citation while Espinoza was held for court. Espinoza appeared at Pomona Superior Court on August 8 and was sentenced to 851 days in jail. He’s currently being held at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.

Arriving officers say 43-year-old Danny Garibay, of Pasadena, was pacing near the accident and allegedly admitted he had been drinking. Police then conducted field sobriety tests which he did not complete, and Garibay was arrested for misdemeanor DUI, transported to CPD, booked, provided a chemical sample, and was held for detoxification.
