Friday, August 23

  • Today is the deadline for high school students to apply for the American Museum of Ceramic Art’s 2024-25 teen council program. The group gathers weekly to create ceramics, explore AMOCA and other museums, develop professional skills, and more. Apply at amoca.org/events.

 

  • The California Pinners Conference, a two-day event highlighting the creatives of Pinterest with more than 100 classes and 200 vendors, returns to expo hall four at Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. August 23 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. August 24. Advance tickets are $12 online or $15 at the door. Parking is $18.   • Patrons can benefit the Friends of the Claremont Library by purchasing a half priced book or other item through August at Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday.

Saturday, August 24

  • Children over 13 and adults eager to learn more about botany can enroll in California Botanic Garden’s 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. workshop, held at 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont. Bring a lunch, note-taking materials, a phone, and water. Admission is $25 for CalBG members, $30 for the public at calbg.org.

 

 

 

  • Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, 200 W. First St., hosts “Free 4 All,” a free and open to the public 4 to 9 p.m. pop-up art show. Exhibitors must bring one ready-to-hang work to CLMA between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, August 23 to take part in the show. Art must be family friendly, with no pedestal or floor displays.   • The San Dimas Jazz Workshop Band performs a free and open to the public 7 p.m. concert at Claremont Presbyterian Church, 1111 N. Mountain Ave. A free will offering will be asked to support the CPC choir.

 

  • Seffarine delivers at 7:30 p.m. performance at Ophelia’s Jump Music Lounge, 2009 Porterfield Way, Suite H, Upland. The group “embraces and extends Morocco’s musical collision between Arabic, Iberian and West African cultures, forging vibrant original music deeply rooted in their backgrounds in flamenco guitar, oud and Arab Andalusian music,” according to a press release.
