Friday, August 30
- Senior artists are invited to a free 9 a.m. to noon drop-in art circle at Joslyn Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave. Info is at anc.apm.activecommunities.com/claremontrecreation, search “art.”
- Patrons can support the Friends of the Claremont Library by purchasing a half priced book or other item through August at Claremont Helen Renwick Library, 208 N. Harvard Ave., which is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
- Claremont Forum, 586 W. First St., hosts a $1 book sale today through Sunday, September 1. The Forum is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
- Claremont’s 6 to 9 p.m. free live music showcase, Friday Nights Live, continues with Dzuls at Village Plaza, Larry and Rhonda Jackson at the chamber of commerce, and Amazing Tone Benders at Shelton Park. Info is at claremontchamber.org.

- People over 15 are invited to Ontario Museum of History and Art’s free 2 to 4 p.m. Studio Saturday program, “Practice of Healing through Poetry and Sound,” a creative writing and performance workshop followed by a meditative sound performance. RSVP at ontariomuseum.org/programs.
- Grim Readers, a true crime book club at the Upland Public Library, 450 N. - California Botanic Garden and The Webb Schools’ Alf Museum of Paleontology host Nerd Out at the Garden, a 6 to 9 p.m. evening of pop culture plant trivia, nature themed board games, and more, at 1500 N. - Radiator King plays at 7:30 p.m. at Ophelia’s Jump Music Lounge, 2009 Porterfield Way, Suite H, Upland. “Whether alone with a guitar or backed by a band, Radiator King embodies the raw energy of punk, the grit and intricacy of delta blues, and the lyrical potency of folk in ‘songs that are the sonic equivalent to an old whiskey bar at the end of a dirt road,’” reads the band’s bio. - Admission is waived at the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art, 200 W. First St., on the first Sunday of each month from noon to 4 p.m. Children’s activities are led by students of the museum’s Project ARTstART program.

- In observance of Labor Day, city hall, the chamber of commerce office, the post office, the Hughes, Joslyn, and Blaisdell centers, city yard and local schools will be closed. Trash and sanitation services will also be delayed by one day this week. Normal hours will resume Tuesday, September 3.
Tuesday, September 3
- Bo Burlingham and Paul Spiegelman, co-founders of Small Giants Community, will be interviewed via Zoom at 10 a.m. for the Drucker School Global Family Business Institute’s free Authors at Drucker series. RSVP at cgu.edu/event.
- “Reading Room: Zines, Comix and Other Radical Texts” opens today for free public viewing at Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, 5885 Haven Ave., Rancho Cucamonga, and runs through November 16. It’s “a loud and proud exhibition that celebrates the contemporary relevance and impacts of zines and comics on culture today” according to the event description.
